That being said, Redden for super cheap wouldn't be the worst idea. I mean, worst case scenario is that he's a veteran #7 D on what would likely be a near league minimum deal.

The salary changes everything, but with our numbers here, I don't think he'd fit in and make that much of a difference IMO.

I don't know. For instance, I'd rather have Redden as the #7 than Holzer. If Holzer makes the team, it needs to be as a top 6 guy. I'd also rather have him as the #7 instead of Mottau or any of the other depth types the Leafs have right now.

I'd take a chance on Redden.  Even if just for the 'stache.

You really think league minimum?

I bet some insane team gives him $2 mil or something.

I'm guessing $1M or less. He's getting a pretty big pay day already as part of the buyout. His priority will likely be to find the best situation for him to rebuild his career.

Retweeted by our favorite media man, Steve Simmons....

Told that Bost, Tor, Fla, Ott have expressed at least preliminary interest in Redden...

So, lies, lies, fiction and more lies?

Redden signing somewhere wouldn't surprise me according to what I'd seen in reports on his AHL play.

I'd take him over Mottau also, but probably not Kostka or Holzer. I don't think Mottau is making the team anyway. I do see your point about ice-time for Holzer, but it's being taken by a certain American that we would like to have go away.

Gunnar/ Phaneuf
Liles/ Komisarek
Gardiner/ Franson
Kostka

I feel similarly about Kostka as I do Holzer - I'd rather have him helping the Marlies than sitting the pressbox for the Leafs. As for Komisarek, it's not likely he's going anywhere this season, so, that has to be taken into consideration. With all things taken into account, to me, someone like Redden makes the most sense as a #7 guy. He's a vet, can play is all situations, and could really surprise and become valuable trade bait come the deadline.

Anything's possible, I like the trade deadline idea. It's always okay getting something for nothing. Kostka is doing well with the Marlies, but, don't we already know that it will really be Komisarek that is going to be in and out of the line-up?  :)

We don't know that at all. In fact, under Carlyle, I wouldn't be surprised to see Komisarek get more opportunity.

It was more of a joke, that's why I put the smiley there. I'm sure Komisarek will flourish.  ;D

I'm curious -- does anyone know, physically, what the hell happened to make a guy who was an allstar suddenly plummet to maybe 7th defenseman on a bottom-5 NHL team?  Like, how exactly does that happen so fast? Just a couple short years ...

Started this post yesterday morning and got postponed 24 hours and just got the pink warning that 18 replies have been posted so much of what I have typed might have either been said since then or worse....proven foolish.

Practice Lines

I feel are trade bait, I feel should be sent down
Forwards:
Lupul - Connolly - van Riemsdyk
Lombardi - Bozak - Kessel
MacArthur - Grabovski - Kulemin
Frattin - Kadri - Komarov
Brown - McClement
Steckel - Orr

Defence:
Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Liles - Komisarek
Mottau - Kostka
Holzer - Fraser
Rielly

Goaltenders:
Reimer
Scrivens

Lombardi - Phoenix draft pick....maybe 2nd?? (If Elliotte is right this might be best for Phoenix, Toronto and Lombardi)

Bozak and Gunnarsson - Luongo (trade Luongo to Florida in 5-6 years to let him retire there as a back up with a $5.3 MIL cap hit and $1 MIL salary)
***unless Buffalo is comfortable with Enroth and are looking to move Miller's $6.25 MIL contract but I haven't seen that speculation anywhere except here at TMLfans.

I think I would still like MacArthur, Lombardi and L Schenn over MacArthur, Lombardi and JVR as it gives the Leafs 3 2nd line LH shots not including Kulemin. Oh well.

Like an old dog with a butchers bone I still am clinging to MacArthur to be traded for Stewart.  :)

Lupul - Connolly - Kessel
van Riemsdyk - Grabovski - Stewart
Frattin  - Kadri - Kulemin
Komarov - McClement - Steckel
Orr/Brown

For Defense:
Gunnarsson is one of the best trade pieces the Leafs have.

I always like a defense with 3 tough defensive players (Phaneuf...ok tough but not very defensive, Komisarek and Fraser) and 3 offensive minded defensemen (Gardiner, Liles, Franson and Phaneuf).  I would prefer Holzer instead of Komisarek and with the ability to split cap hit and salary in trades Komisarek might be able to be moved finally.

As for Rielly, he is 4 years younger than Gardiner.  In 4 years Liles contract is up.  I would like to see Rielly left in Juniors for the next 2 years and the AHL for 2 years.  When Liles contract is up, Gardiner should be able to fill his role and Rielly can come in and replace Gardiner.

So maybe if the Leafs cover half of Komisarek's contract NYI would give a draft pick...maybe 2nd rounder??

Defence:
Gardiner - Phaneuf
Liles - Komisarek (Holzer)
Fraser - Franson
Mottau

I would leave Holzer (if Komisarek can't be traded) and Kostka in the AHL to help the Marlies until there are injuries on the Leafs defense corps.

This summer make a push for  Getzlaf for 7 years @ $6 MIL cap hit (8,8,6,6,6,4,4) to replace Connolly.

I might change my mind by the weekend...except regarding Stewart.

I'd take Redden for $1mil. At the very least it adds a little more leadership to the team.

I'd like to see the Leafs try that out now that they've 'accelerated' the compliance buyout options.

I just want Getzlaf. Please. Or someone who is an actual top line centre. 4 years of Kessel flanked by the likes of Matt Stajan/Tyler Bozak/Clarke Wilm is just such a waste.

How close does a package of Bozak, Franson, and a prospect get us to O'Reilly? I really think O'Reilly would legitimize our top line.

Wilm never played with Kessel, did he?  Or did you mean like "the Clarke Wilms of the world"?

What does everyone here think of PK Subban? Toronto born kid, bright future, can't come to agreement with the Habs. Just curious as to what fans here think his value is? What would it take to get him in blue and white if his contract negotiations continue to drag on?
