We simply do not have a very good team here, especially with guys like Domi and Duclair in the NHL.

Not to mention McDavid, even though he's injured.
How is this different than any other year? There's always 1 or 2 WJHC-eligible players not made available.

Domi and Duclair both aged out actually. From what I can tell the U20's that weren't made available to Canada were: McDavid, Bennett, McCann, and Fabbri.

edit: and Ekblad

We really need an Ekblad type, but our D corps would be bad even with him.

Lines at practice today:

Crouse-Strome-Virtanen
Perlini-Point-Marner
Beauvillier-Barzal-Gauthier
Quenneville-Stephens-Konecny
Chartier

I'm trying to think how I would even fix these lines but really can't think of anything. I feel like reuniting Strome-Marner is the obvious move but that's basically putting all our eggs in one basket. I'd try Konecncy on the top line with Crouse and Strome, and maybe bump up Barzal to play with Marner instead of Point.

Isn't Marner a centre?

I thought about that too but they've been playing him on the wing all tournament long so I doubt they make the change now. Could give him a lot more room to skate though.

Anyone have any updates on Nylander?

The English translation of a Swedish report about it.  Not all that illuminating, but I had to post because of the translated headline:

Nylander's fate is determined
NHL bugs flying in

Good period for Canada. That late goal hurt but overall we played pretty well. That was more of a Team Canada type period.

Meh, it was a good setup and a hard, quick shot.

Marner with some bad play/giveaways this period.

With so much hype and talk about the 4 Leaf prospects in the tourney it has been a big disappointment for me. All starting with the Nylander hit. Think he could've have been the best player in the tourney. Dermott has been quiet, Kapanen the same. Marner has shown some flashes but again he looks tentative to me. I know it's only 1 tourney but Strome has been much better. Think the biggest thing I see that might be hurting him is his size.

Kapanen has been very good in the tournament.

Dermott plays a quiet game, that's what you want from him.

But there's no point drawing broad conclusions from a short tournament anyway.

I agree Potvin only one tourney I said that but what has your impression been of Marner. Today so far he has been terrible. Bad pass near the end of the first. Has not handled the puck well, handling passes, not a good game to this point.
