2011-2012 NHL Thread

Ducks might be down to their 3rd string goalie for a while. Ellis is expected to miss 4 weeks with a groin strain and Hiller had to leave tonight's game with a lower body injury.

Nowhere near as dirty as Tucker on Peca.  Way I see it Marchand, was going to play the puck, took a look, realized he was going to get creamed and tried to bail out of it by being the hitter instead of the hittee.  If salo doesn't bang his head, picks himself up and has a go at Marchand, would the refs have even called a penalty.  I know they didn't do much on the Tucker hit.

Well, sure, if you ignore the fact that the ref's arm was up to indicate the penalty before Salo had finished falling.

Solid, if unspectacular career.  Since his second season he has never put up less than 50 points (well, he did have a 49 point season).  Ten 20 goal seasons (another with 18)

Yeah. He's never been an elite goal scorer, but, I was surprised it took him this long to get a hatty.

Weird, meaningless fact of the day:

Doan came into the game tied for most number of 2-goal games without scoring a hattrick, tied with Petr Sykora, at 38 games.

Sykora snapped his streak of 38 2-goal game performances....against the Isles.
Doan snapped his streak of 38 2-goal game performances...against the Isles.

I love weird coincidences like that.

I bet there are like 10 players who did that against the Leafs.  Players in slumps always break out against us. ;)

How would you like to be the Pens?

Currently without the following due to injury: Crosby, Letang, Neal, Staal, Adams, and Asham.

Those first 3 are killers.

Incredible really.  They are 8th in the East now, and these injuries certainly won't help them.

If I was Shero, I'd just play out the season.  Maybe a small pickup (i.e. like last season when they dealth a 5th for Kovalev).  No sense mortgaging any 'future' in my opinion.  Hope to come back next season with all hands on deck.

;D  Looks like Burke may just get the call he is waiting for.  ;D

The Ducks aren't making the playoffs.  They aren't in desparate need for a goalie, certainly not for a stop-gap goalie until Hiller comes back.  They are either going to ride it out, or acquire some random backup goalie for a late draft pick to stem the tide.

I don't think this changes anything.

I could see them signing Turco

Kinda sums up my thoughts:

Ummm...why now?

Totes. Who in their right mind would make a big deal about a strong second half of the season if you still end up missing the playoffs?

Probably not, no. though, I can see them trying to make a play for someone like Lindback or Harding. They'll either bring in a cheap vet to hold the fort or look for a guy they can potentially be their #1 going forward, and, the Leafs don't really have either of those to offer right now.

Just seems like they should have fired him earlier.

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Spoke with Howson. Gave Arniel benefit of doubt in Oct since team was missing key players... but 2 wins in last 11 games was last straw...

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Howson felt Arniel was running out of things to try.... Howson was off to speak with players now
