I hear Betts failed his physical and has been returned to the Flyers.

The Steckel deal makes even more sense now.

There was loose talk in the Flyers media that Betts had shoulder problems.

Speaking of cap complications, that could be a problem for the Flyers. With Laperriere on LTIR, they only have about $500k in cap space to work with. They also now have 52 contracts on their reserve list. Two of those contracts, Noebels and Couturier, are junior age players who don't count against the limit until they play 10 games in the NHL this season. Noebels was already sent back to his junior team, but Couturier is currently still with the team and by all accounts looked very good in his first game.

They put Laperriere on LTIR to get some relief but I'm fuzzy whether that's enough. There's a chance that Betts career is done because it's iffy whether the issue can be surgically repaired according to the article. So he may also wind up on LTIR because they can't waive him which might help solve their cap problem ...

What really happened is Montreal discovered Betts was over 5'10' and they didn't have a jersey to fit him

:D

It'd solve their cap problem yeah, but they'll still have to dump a contract if they want Couturier to stay up.

I think Schenn will be brought up to replace him.

When I got to Cola's name, I thought they placed him on waivers and almost had a heart attack! He has had a pretty good streak of being injury free kind eh? :-D

I did as well :D

If he plays that's what, 300k more for Sykora and Carter compared to Steckel. Not sure I'd do that but the Devils probably have something else in mind eventually.

Perhaps a stupid question, but when a player is placed on waivers, does that automatically grant other teams the right to speak with that player, or do they still require permission from the team placing him on waivers?

“@TSNBobMcKenzie: PHX claims Brett MacLean from WPG on waivers. DET puts Fabian Brunnstrom on waivers.”

Hmm....just not happenin' for this guy, eh?

lmao @ MacLean, from Coyotes to Jets to Coyotes in less then a month ;D

It happened with Harold Druken, Carolina to Toronto back to Carolina on waivers but then he was traded back to Toronto a few months later.

2003/05/29 Carolina Hurricanes traded Harold Druken to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Allan Rourke.
2003/01/17 Claimed by the Carolina Hurricanes off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
2002/12/11 Claimed by the Toronto Maple Leafs off waivers from the Carolina Hurricanes.

Don't even need to contact the player, as far as I know.  I think a waiver claim is just a matter of sending paperwork to the NHL offices.
