Disappointed with Doughty signing.

When did Underhill leave the Leafs?

Don't think she ever "left".  I think she is some sort of independent contractor and goes around to whoever requires her services.

EDIT:  Upon further investigation, looks like she is working with the Leafs, Lightning and Guelph Storm.

Correct. Almost all of our skills-specific coaches are consultants as they have their own businesses/clientele. Dawn Braid, who like her friend Barb Underhill is a former figure skater and one of the first power skating consultants, works with the Flames and Coyotes. She formerly part-timed for the Leafs (among other teams), and was credited with re-building John Tavares' hitchy stride into what it is today while serving as the director of skating development with Athlete Training Centre (i.e. Wes Clark's father's company).

Kind of interesting. Definitely an example of what's going to be at the root of the next lockout.

Add to that the revelation that Bettman has asked GM?s to stop giving out contracts with lockout protection.

Gary is preparing leverage for his final lockout.

Has this been verified? It sounds like it could be an illegal form of collusion ? asking GM collectively to avoid a certain kind of contract agreed to undrr the CBA.

I don't think it would rise to the standard of collusion when, after looking over the last few days, teams are clearly not listening to him but enough hockey reporters I like have stated it as near-fact that I'm pretty sure it's true.

I think Bettman's smart enough to communicate the league's feelings on the matter without issuing actual directives.

Maybe, but the only guys that this sort of thing affects are the big income earner, who generally are in less of a hurry to get a deal done, given they've got giant piles of cash everywhere.

It's the lower income earners that tend to be unable to lose a year of income, and there are for more of them.

I do not see how that relates to what I said.

Looks like Voynov might get the chance to return to the NHL. Read the thing the whole way through though to see why he shouldn't ever be on a NHL team again.

Sort of an interesting point made by Elliotte Friedman on the new 31 thoughts podcast. We've talked a lot about varying tax rates and how that might affect player decisions but something he said that may be a counter-balance to all that is that if a player signs what's maybe a below-market deal to have a higher take home in somewhere like Dallas or Miami, they're going to be more insistent on a full NTC/NMC situation so they don't then get dealt to a place where they'll pay higher taxes.

"See that? When the defenseman hesitates like that, try to block the passing lane so he has no easy zone exits. Also, if you know he was abused by his father, maybe mention that to see if it throws him off his game."

Whatever it takes to "make that journey."

And never ever apologize for using whatever it takes to reach your goals no matter how far over the line you go.
