I'm not sure if anyone was seriously saying that one for one but I think it was Kypreos who suggested Nylander for David Savard and Anderson, which is still insane.

Although I would still be very interested in that duo (but for something like Kappy/Bracco/Ceci).

Yeah, when people were saying "Who would you try to get for Kapanen/Johnsson" Savard seemed like a reasonable target both in terms of value and what Columbus might need. Feels unlikely that they'd throw Anderson in but if he's been butt all year...?

Yeah like you said I think Kappy for Savard feels about right. The rest would require Columbus to a) sorta be sick of Anderson, b) think Ceci is a serviceable enough defenceman to help replace Savard for the rest of the season as they still try to make the playoffs, and c) think Bracco can produce offence at the NHL level. If those 3 things are true then the trade gives Columbus a big boost offensively (5th last in goals per game right now) while not getting completely ruined defensively.

I love and accept you, Andy*.

* but I did that even before I knew you were a Nylander fan.

:D

Your support helps me get through the rough patches. I will think of you guys the the next time I hear the old "Trade this guy for a bag of pucks" 'hot takes.'

I'm thinking they might be willing to throw in a Boone Jenner (with some retained salary) in that deal. Maybe Kappy/Johnsson, Ceci, Timashov going the other way?

I know the people who need to see this will remain hopelessly unconvinced by it but McDavid tonight again established that he is perfectly capable of making any defenseman in the league look stupid.

That is stay at home gritty defense first defenseman Travis Hamonic being made to look like he's not even on the ice.

I was literally just going to write this but looks like those idiot Calgary Flames just "let" Connor score a goal. Man they're so stupid, just bad hockey players.

Zack Kassian just got hit by a pretty hard, but fairly clean, hit by Matthew Tkachuk and proceeded to throw at least a half dozen bare handed haymakers at a turtling Tkachuk.

The penalty? Not five for fighting but somehow a double-minor for roughing.

This was not a fighting major.

Hockey, where your toughest guys are supposed to go out and throw hits.

Also hockey, where your toughest guys will absolutely lose their shit if they get hit.

Is that because of some weird quirk in the NHL rulebook where two players have to both get fighting majors? I'm not sure if I've ever seen just one guy get one, and clearly Tkachuk wanted nothing to do with that "fight".

Domi's first game against the Devils after the infamous elbow. Jim McKenzie jumped Domi and got 5 for fighting + instigator, misconduct and game misconduct. Domi got nothing.

Calgary won the game with the game winner coming during the resulting penalties. I'm sure Matthew Tkachuk will totally think twice before throwing another hit though.

I thought it was suspendable but I really didn't think the NHL would. This doesn't guarantee that there will be one but it's something.

Wow. I think if that's suspendable, then Tkachuk's predatory hit is too. That whole sequence was ugly. It's hard to blame Kassian for blowing his top.

Exactly my thoughts.  That hit by Tkachuk was pretty brutal.  So was the way Kassian was upending him during the fight like a sack of potatoes.

Both players showed ultra aggressive manoeuvres ? Tkachuk with the hit and Kassian with the response.  Both should therefore be ?punished?.

What rule did Tkachuk's hit break? Excluding something like charging, which is broad enough to virtually include any big hit, the commentators doing the game last night didn't even put forth the idea that it should have received two minutes.
