Just wondering what everyones thoughts are as far as looking into obtaining Dustin Byfuglien.
Jets are looking at terminating his contract.
What is going on with him? Is he still hurt?
Leafs can sign him to finish the year don't think it would cost anything if he terminates his contract. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Probably out of shape as hell. He wouldn't be the first guy I'd target that's for sure.

I just mentioned him because of the situation.
Would he be a FA and cost nothing to a team wanting to gamble on him for the rest of the year?
Wouldn't cost anything but cash.
Maybe sign him and trade some forward(s)for another solid D. Trade Barrie recoup some picks and let Ceci walk after this season.

Reilly-Byfuglien
Muzzin-Dermott
Sandin-Lilly
X=D man from trade
Barrie isn't getting traded unless the Leafs lose until the deadline. Big Buff will be so out of shape and no one knows if he wants to play. Sure doesn't look that way or he'd go back to the Peg.

There's no harm in looking but without really knowing what the situation is that caused him to just walk out on his team and questions about what sort of hockey shape he's in it's probably a long shot even if he did want to sign with a team that may or may not make the playoffs.

Ya not sure what's going on with him.
Hurt, wants out of Wpg.
If he's healthy and wants a change and has stayed in decent shape I would love to have him. Exactly what this team needs. D man who can play top minutes, hard to play against, RH shot and tough.
If something else is going on and could be trouble then yes stay away.

If it were as simple a situation as Byfuglien wants to play hockey but just doesn't want to in Winnipeg then because he is a valuable commodity, and even an unhealthy Byfuglien is valuable for a team looking to roll the dice, then the Jets would be looking to trade him.

That things have progressed to where they are is a pretty good sign that this ideal scenario of a healthy, fired up and in-shape player isn't particularly realistic. Otherwise Winnipeg would be well within their rights to expect him to be around.

I think Buff playing this season for any team is probably out of the question. Next season could be a different story though.

But if you sign him now, you can bring down his cap hit.  Give him a big signing bonus so lost salary for missing most the year has little to no impact.  Basically spread out the total cost of his contract by an extra year.  He'd be LTIR anyways, so wouldn't impact this year.

I was hoping Marchment would stick around a while longer. How about losing Gauthier? I fail to see what he brings to this team. Wouldn't mind seeing Korshkov get a call up too.

Yeah I can't understand how Gauthier has stuck around for so long.  Sure he can win some faceoffs,  but in his own end he is ineffective for the most part since he is not going to win many loose puck battles or skate the puck to safety.
You can say all you want about his skating being improved and yes when in motion, without obstacles his skating is adequate, but his stops starts and changes of direction are still way below average and he seems to fall down way too easily and too often.
I would be surprised if he is coveted by other teams, but if we could get a late round draft pick for him, I'd be happy.

Holy moly top line shenanigans

Hope Barrie is being traded. Don't these guys get flu shots, since I started about 10 years ago, I have not had the flu and only one cold.  I guess they can't force the players to take the shot but you would think it would be academic.

How many free dinners is Campbell going to get this season?

Campbell seems like Mr. Happy go-lucky guy.  "golly wiz, gee this is fun!"

They may well have all taken the flu shot, as they should.  The illness may not be the flu.  Even if it is, there are a billion different strains of the flu.  That's why we need a new flu shot every year --- they are trying to predict which strains will be most prevalent in a given year and provide protection against those.  But they can guess wrong on the strains or the strains can mutate.  Anyway, it all boils down to the fact that the flu shot is far from 100% effective.  That doesn't mean you shouldn't take it.  You should.  It helps you some percentage of the time and will often make the flu less severe, even if you do get it.  It can also help you avoid passing it on to others who, for various reason cannot take the flu shot (eg: too young or immuno deficient).

The flu shot is only around 50% effective:

I know these guys are doing lots of public appearances and stuff, so are they just more likely to be exposed to viruses and get these illnesses?  I have 3 kids in school and I'm not as sick as these players seem to get every season with reports of "flu going around".
