Welcome back Marner, and a bunch of minimum wage defensemen!

If he wants to go back to Russia, and they agree to terminate his contract, he wouldn't count towards the cap, correct?

Brown's expendable because of who is in front of him, not necessarily behind him. $2.1mil for a 4RW is too much for any cap structure.
And that's why I say that Hyman goes to. He's a 3rd, 4th line guy playing on the 1st which inflates his numbers substantially. He's replaceable with a guy like Johnsson/Kappy, who have more offensive talent, and his salary, like Brown's is used to help pay those guys. You're 3rd and especially your 4th line is where you go on the cheap. Kadri is a luxury at 4.5 for a 3rd line centre. Brown and Hyman gone equals 4.3 mill towards Kappy and Johnsson.

I'd love to have this conversation with you for the 7th time but I think the other posters are starting to tire of it ;)
Haha. Nice one.

Dont know if he wants to go back to Russia. Just wants traded from what I heard. I think if he wanted out he could be out on waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract. Something like that. Don't think they can terminate and then another NHL team signs him. So you are probably right. I hope lol.

I don't really get the last sentence of McKenzie's tweet. Obviously the Leafs are in a tight cap spot but if they can move Zaitsev and not take back salary, then retaining some salary on his deal wouldn't be ideal but it could still save them millions on the cap.

This could happen, but it almost certainly won't.
Didnt know that. Thx. Would be a great scenario but I dont see Zaitsev giving up that kind of coin as Im pretty sure tgat terminating neans no payout. Hope the Leafs can get out of the contract without retaining. Don't care what they get back.

I love Nikita for being the one to ask for a change of scenery.
someone once asked me if I wanted a contract (I knew I could totally trust this man),  I said look I don't need a contract because if I am performing you will more than want me to continue to work for you. If I don't produce why would I expect you to be forced to keep me. I have worked this way for over 20 years and  its all been based on a handshake.
Now Zaitzev is no wallflower, probably takes a huge amount of pride in what he does, and the Leafs want a quick break out pass and Z is not a break out pass kind of guy, he is is puck carrying Dude.  He knows the Leafs are not using him to his strength.  He is doing the decent thing by asking for the trade, he doesnt want to play were he is not wanted.
Hope Dubas can make all of us happy.
May mean Hainsey gets a one year deal though

I'm all for moving Zaitsev, but someone has to play defense. Losing Gardiner/Zaitsev/Hainsey plus Dermott out for the start of the season doesn't paint a pretty picture. Hainsey on a one year deal, played on the 2nd or 3rd pair, works for me.

Maybe Marner can play some defense...

Holl and Marincin, huh? Ummm...

Maybe Borgman and Rosen.

Sandin most likely ain't ready. Lily probably ain't either.

Very surprised by the request. I kind of feel like he owes us for his miracle contract he got. Anyways, something rubbed him the wrong way. Maybe some doctor is trying to send him to Robdias island? It would be nice to know what prompted the request.
