Bless you, GT. Not sure facts and figures are the most persuasive argument for the Toronto Sun demographic though.

The idea there that if the Leafs ended up beating the Bruins they would have eventually lost to Columbus and/or Carolina anyway is absolutely wild.

No kidding and because they're small or played that way against the Bruins is why they lost???? Did this clown watch the series? Fact is no one knows what would have happened if they beat the Bruins. They may be in the finals or not. We'll never know so speculating on it is a waste of time.

They aren?t.  Which goes to show how a persuasive argument can bend the mind of those without facts & figures.

We all know why Leafs lost and there?s no predicting whether what would have happened against the other opposition if they had won over the Bruins.

Articles like these can ruin the perspective and muddle the truth.

this perhaps a little off topic, but im curious what would happen if the leafs switched things up and tried Marner with Kadri next year and relied on Tavares ability to lift his wingers (perhaps johnsson and kappy).

Not much news so I would post about not much news...hopefully Blues win tonight, Raptors tomorrow night and that the draft and trades take over our conciseness once again.  Nice not to hear a mention of MM in a week or if PM sold his house in Willowdale.

Can't really see them getting much/any value here, but still signifies that they might be planning to bring someone else in for that role next season.

I personally don't want him on the roster. Didn't like how he played or handled himself. I wish him well but ideally somewhere else.

I know he sucked this past year but what backup options are available? Anyone half decent in UFA?

I think McBackup would want too much money for backup roll now. Need a guy a million or less

I think that is no longer the case. The Leafs NEED a capable backup. Freddie has to be rested more during the year and unless one of the kids or hutch is the guy, they'll need to trade or buy one.
I don't see Sparks back with the club anyway. There's more to the story then they've told. They didn't clear out his locker and move him away from the team to get his game back in 10 days. I think there was an issue with him opening up his yap to the media in the room and the players turned on him.

Leafs are already under the cap crunch for this upcoming season.  I don't think they can afford to spend 1.5 or whatever on a backup.  Not sure what McElhinney would ask for but I have to guess he's looking for a big raise over his previous contract.

There's word that the Leafs are apparently still in contract with Gardiner's people about a contract. That tells me that they're at least somewhat confident in being able to clear cap space this summer.

Yeah, but Gardiner won't be cheap, so him and Marner + one of Kapanen/Johnsson and trying to upgrade on D with another right hander once Zaitsev is gone, doesn't leave much for backup goalie money I don't think.

My point is we'll probably have a little bit more cap flexibility than we thought 2 weeks ago, who knows what the team ends up doing with it.

Without knowing what any of those guys will get it seems strange to take that stand. The difference between paying the minimum for a back-up and paying 1.5 or so is smaller than the range of outcomes on just one of those contracts alone.
