4 left for 2022. Better keep some to blow on rentals next season

THere's also the 2023 picks, some of the lower ceiling or older prospects, etc. We're not talking about expensive pieces here. Conditional picks where the conditions will never be met will be what teams give up for a number of these types.

The rights to Hyman in the offseason should be worth a 3rd round pick, yeah?

Kulikov and Oleksiak are the only real interesting options if the team is looking to add someone to the regular lineup.

*urge to acquire Oleksiak intensifying*

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but losing Muzzin in the expansion draft means keeping Holl, right?
Why would they lose Muzz? They can protect 8 skaters and 1 goalie if they choose to.

Well, in the context of the discussion I was having with herman.

Oh yeah, 8+1 is a thing. Alright, the minimum mark to beat for a defensive depth addition (with term) is Justin Holl.

I know we traded away picks, but we didn't trade away any of the prospects that are good and close to playing in the NHL like Sandin, Robertson.  Also you hope Liljegren is also close and Amirov a bit further off. Also heard good things are Abruzzese (he's italian so you know he's good)  Wonder how many of this list will break through next season.

Between Hutton being an Ontario guy and Foligno being a scrappy second generation Leaf, a team that already seemed very Don Cherry-friendly got especially so.

Hope Galchenyuk can continue to play well, I think his solid play helped shape what the Leafs were prioritizing and they weren't really hot for Hall because of it. Nash and Foligno can be huge for overall team defence if both play like they can. Overall I think it's a solid changeover of players.  Let's hope it works, so tired of losing in the playoffs.

I made a typo in the initial post, it should be 2022 5th instead of 7th.

All in all, there are like 2-3 pieces I like coming in (meh on the rest) and maybe 1 piece I'm sad about leaving.

Pretty happy we still have Nicky Bobby, Sandin, Liljegren, Niemela, and Amirov.
The Leafs are better built to weather hiccups to the lineup and ugly grind out games and didn't even need to trade Nylander.

What did the rest of our division do?

Dubas addresses all on the shopping list:

* Goalie
* Top 6
* bottom 6
* deep D

He didn't lose any prospect.

He is in All in move and hopefully no one will remember the next year (thin) draft because the Leafs pick was the 31st overall (yes, 31st, Carolina does not have a pick, 32nd overall would be round 2, 1st choice).

Go Leafs Go!!!

I hope Leafs pick is 32nd overall, I think Seattle picks in this draft no?

Yeah but Arizona lost their pick for Combine shenanigans.

So now that the deadline has passed, expansion protection seems pretty straight forward now.

Protect 8/1/1:
Big 4
Top 4 D
Campbell

Expose: Dermott, Kerfoot, Engvall

Sign Hyman after the expansion draft.
