Dermott has to be signed for the Leafs to add him to their exposed list.Deebo said:So now that the deadline has passed, expansion protection seems pretty straight forward now.
Protect 8/1/1:
Big 4
Top 4 D
Campbell
Expose: Dermott, Kerfoot, Engvall
Sign Hyman after the expansion draft.

And by not signing Hyman you're giving Seattle a chance to negotiate with him for 3 days before the draft, not that I think it will be an issue.
I can see them doing that.CarltonTheBear said:I could see them re-signing Hutton and having him fulfill that exposure requirement if they don't think they'll get a deal done with Dermott by then.

That's what I said...He has to be signed to go on the Leafs Exposed List.bustaheims said:Guilt Trip said:Dermott has to be signed for the Leafs to add him to their exposed list.Deebo said:So now that the deadline has passed, expansion protection seems pretty straight forward now.

He has to be signed to count towards the minimum the team is required to be exposed. He can still be selected. Everyone who isn?t protected or doesn?t meet age/experience requirements is exposed.

And there's a difference from the Team's Exposed list and players that are available..an unsigned Dermott is available to be drafted...he's not on the exposed list

Except Deebo said nothing about an expose list. Just that they should be exposed. There isn?t an exposed list, in fact. There?s minimum exposure requirements, but there?s no list. The list is everyone who isn?t protected and meets the thresholds to be selected.
There?s a Protected List, there?s ineligible players, and there?s everyone else
In all likelihood probably not.Deebo said:bustaheims said:Guilt Trip said:That's what I said...He has to be signed to go on the Leafs Exposed List.

The main thing I was trying to show was that it won't be a key player that we lose.
There are no roster limits after the trade deadline. They just have to be under the cap. I can see Freddie getting back into shape and then playing for the Marlies for some games before the playoffs.L K said:I don't think there is a way for the Leafs to get back under the cap if Andersen is healthy before the end of the season....without exposing players to waivers. Granted getting on the ice is a far way away from actually being back on the roster. Kucherov started skating March 13 and is still going to be out until the playoffs start.
Their hypothetical lineup is:
Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Galchenyuk-Tavares-Nylander
Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Simmonds
Engvall-Spezza-Thornton
Muzzin-Holl
Rielly-Brodie
Dermott-Bogosian
Campbell
Andersen
Rittich
COVID but on roster: Foligno, Hutton
That's already a 24-person roster so they would have to cut someone. Let's just say they hypothetically waive Engvall to the taxi-squad. They would still be 1.575M over the cap. Waiving Rittich wouldn't get them below that so they would need to waive three players to get below the cap.
I'm not sure that a Montreal or Edmonton would be as keen to let Spezza clear waivers again when they would be facing off against each other in the postseason a few weeks later.

Right, yep forgot that one. Still doesn't change the cap implications though. There really just isnt' a way for the Leafs to not lose multiple guys right before the playoffs if Freddy is good to go.
