Yeah I mean good value in the context of goalie value in general.

That's about right I guess. He'll probably go for less than what we gave up to acquire Bernier though.

Hopefully you find a team who really needs goaltending and can squeeze them a little more.  Sum GMs r dum.

"Hello, is Garth Snow there?"

Yeah. I mean, this is a league where Reto Berra garnered a 2nd round pick, after all.

I'd like to think that Reimer is a little bit more "proven" than what Bernier was when we acquired him.  Seymon Varlamov and Cory Schneider both went for 1st round picks, so I'd like to think Reimer would too.  But I imagine, yeah, probably a deal similar to Bernier's value.

He's more proven but not necessarily proven in a good way.

I still don't understand that one.  Was it his .897 SV% or the fact that he is 27 that inspired Colorado to give up a 2nd round pick for him?

I think they just liked his name.

It's pretty simple. Sometimes the guys making the decisions make a stupid, and draft is one of those times of the year where stupid has a tendency to raise its head.

That's part of the problem, that he is more "proven." Bernier was coveted because of his potential, which seems to be proving true. Reimer has proven that he's still a pretty shaky option as a number 1 and not a good fit as number 2. So think he probably wouldn't draw more than a second round pick as a bit of gamble. While we might like to think otherwise, hard to see any better as a reality.

A Brick wall would of been a pretty shaky option as number 1 with the way the defense played this season.

Just a question.Could the leafs exchange draft picks with the Islanders this year, plus give NY a 3rd round pick, this year or next. Leafs get a better draft position, the Islanders get something and Buffalo still would get the Islanders first round pick.

Buffalo wouldn't get the Islanders pick in that scenario, as it would have been traded to the Leafs. The Sabres would have to agree to take the Leafs' pick this year instead of the Islanders' pick next year for that to work.

I'm not sure an agreement like that would happen.  I think the only way this works is either the Islanders decide to keep this years pick, and then pulls the trigger on your proposed trade OR Islanders give up the pick to the Sabres, and then the Sabres make that trade with the Leafs.  BTW, I don't think a 3rd round pick is enough for the Leafs to move up from 8th to 5th.

We have friends who are Winnipeg Jets fans (and season ticket holders). Just before the trade deadline, we were sitting around and we happened, in a jocular manner, to mention that Reimer might be traded to the Jets. Well, their reaction was immediate, unanimous and vehement: they said that what they had was better than Reimer.

They were talking about Pavelec and Montoya.  :o

Admittedly, I don't think Reimer has ever played well against the Jets and this may have coloured their view. It's also possible that they are vastly over-rating their own players. This is something that fans often do. Including Leaf fans.

I think Reimer's reputation (if he had one outside of Toronto) took a hit this season. In other words, I don't think the Leafs are going to get a high draft pick for him.

One thing you have to credit burke for, is he got value in trades.  Most of us would have thought Jason Blake was untradable; but burke did it.

Yes one of his bunny out of the hat moves. Where is Jason now, taking pot shots at his garage door from 40 feet out?
Probably - I think that big contract we gave him included a new road hockey net and a fresh set of "showdown" target. ;D

I kinda wish we had a 20 -25 goal player for only 4 mil a year.

Blake was no star but his contract wasn't an anchor either. His salary dropped to $3mil in the last 2 years of his deal so that worked in the teams favour too. Honestly Anaheim was probably pretty happy they were able to find a taker for Giguere's contract. He had a $6mil cap hit at a time where it was clear he wasn't a NHL starting goalie anymore. And his salary went up to $7mil in his final year too.
