Somebody on twitter brought this up earlier today: if the Islanders keep their pick this year the 5th for the 8th and Reimer?

Even if the Islanders decide to give up the pick to Buffalo, that deal might also be of interest to them as well.

Possibly. I wouldn't move Reimer to Buffalo though. I'm fine with their goaltending no longer beating us single-handily every game.

The Leafs could always just shoot at his glove and pop in rebounds all night...

I do it, I don't think the Islanders do to be honest. I certainly wouldn't mind getting a shot DalColle.  Big body, scoring really well.  Might be available as the 5th wheel after Ekblad, Reinhart, Draisaitl and Bennett.

That seems like an awfully steep price.

Wasn't this considered a weak(ish) draft? Reimer is clearly not happy being a backup in toronto, so trading up if its possible sounds like a great way to go.

Thanks to RDM for the info, The Leafs picked one Darryl Sittler 8th overall once upon a time, the heavens for a repeat.
They also drafted Brandon Convery 22 years ago.  ::) hoping for a Sittler.

I think in most drafts the price to move up 3 spots in the top 10 would be at least a 2nd plus something else, so the value seems right regarding Reimer + pick #8 for pick #5.

In 08 we gave up a 2nd + a 3rd to move up from 7th to 5th to take Luke Schenn

In 09 the price to up from 7th to 5th was reportedly two 2nds which would have been to get Brayden Schenn

Reimer doesn't have an awfully high value. I always figured it'd be a 2nd rounder plus maybe an average prospect. And like Kush said above, that's similar to what we traded to move up last time.

If the Islanders decide to keep the pick though they're basically saying they have to be much, much better next season. And that's all going to start with goaltending.

That move up to schenn didn't really work out for the leafs.  So I think it might be better to keep the 8th pick and chose wisely.

It did and it didn't, right? ;)

I think Reimer's value has really been hurt this year.  If we traded him last offseason, I think we might have procured a first.  If we trade him this offseason, I think a 2nd is the most we could hope for.  However, I really wouldn't be surprised to see him gone for a 3rd at the draft.

JVR and his 30g 61pts says hello.

So because a different GM once moved up in a draft and it 'arguably' didn't work out for the Leafs, they should never try to move up in a different draft again?

Where is everyone at in there heads!!!. Reimer played very well, and is a solid goalie. It was team defense , and a crappy system. Just look at the shot count. Like I have said before goaltending is not a problem that needs fixed. I think RC is gone and Reimer is resigned.

I wonder if he can't increase his value a bit with a good showing at the worlds this year? It certainly wouldn't hurt.

Reimer should still have good value.  Consider that he has 23 more career games played than Bernier (140 to 117) and Reimer's SV% is .914 compared to .918 for Bernier.  That's not a big difference.

He has low value in the sense that all available goalies have low value. But I do think his season stats lowered it a bit. Even if he did play better than they reflect. And the fact that he'll likely want out won't help either.

Yeah I mean good value in the context of goalie value in general.
