Game 33: Kings at Leafs - Dec 19th 7pm SNETO (OTL3-2)

Is there a reason Phaneuf skates at 20% effort in the neutral zone when the Leafs are on the PP?  He's not the fastest guy in the world but he barely moves going for the puck on the PP...it kills so much time when the Leafs are struggling to gain the zone.

You know, I'd be curious to see if there is a relationship between PK success and shot blocking. I understand the thinking on it but I sometimes think the instinct to block shots leads to a lot of out of position defensemen and screened goalies.

i know from commentary of last year that the Leafs' coaches discourage the lay-down style of shot blocking for that very reason (the out of position reason.)

Is this really a problem?  The Leafs have been pretty good at gaining the zone on the PP this year, and seem to have a plan for it, usually involving Liles not Phaneuf.

Somehow I'm not sure that the opposition setting up in the zone and blasting your PKers with shots is even close to necessarily a good thing for the PK

NHL's blocked shots stats have Montreal at #1 in both blocked shots and PK%.  Minny is #2 and #8 PK.

But then you have Carolina and Toronto as #3 and #4 in blocks and both in the bottom 5 of PK%.

Steven Spielberg, am I honestly supposed to get excited about a war movie centered around a horse?

I was going to say something similar, that the Leafs have been gaining the zone pretty good here.

The other thing, and this may just be something that's hit the Leafs hard lately, is that I have to figure it leads to injured PK'ers.

Huge by Reimer to make that save and cover up as the Leafs top line gets hemmed in for another 25 minutes.

What a joke listening to this whole controversy about not having a french speaking coach in Montreal. Only thing I can say is WHO CARES.

Apparently, Montreal.

Not to drag this out, but if they hired a non-English speaking coach for the Leafs I would think that we'd be annoyed but because we're in the majority hockey-wise we're a bit baffled at it.

Maybe Wilson could pretend to not speak English? Or we could hire
Esa Tikanen as our coach. He can't speak any language.

But really didn't give up a great chance, it was nothing but cycling.  Not great, but not a total breakdown.

I was going to say. In a movie about one of the most tragic, pointless wastes of human life in all of history the only way I'm going to get worked up over a horse is if he went on to cure polio.

Yep Reimer bailing them out now they need to get it together

Geez it just keeps going...finally...we're at rock bottom momentum now though

Honestly the Leafs could hire Helen Keller to coach them and I'd be fine with it if they made the playoffs.
