Game of Thrones (S7)

Good to see him back. Wonder what Littlefinger is planning. Probably trying to put a wedge between Arya and Sansa. Sansa's become a bit of a bitch.

I enjoyed the episode quite a bit but I think when Game of Thrones is finished and anyone attempts to watch the thing as a single piece the shift in pace of this season is going to be jarring.

The amount that guys like Davos, Tyrion, Jon, Jorah, and others travelled in last nights episode used to take like half a season to cover. I don't mind it, but it definitely makes it feel like a slightly different show.

I think this season is one of the best cos of that. But equally I get a lot of the travelling etc was needed to build plot and characters and all so I think it's fair enough cos all of that is out of the way

When you have the world's most popular show, keeping a lid on new episodes is tough, apparently. After Game of Thrones' fourth episode hit torrent sites due to a leak from HBO partner Star India, episode 6, due to air on August 20th, was accidentally released by HBO Nordic in Spain. It was quickly pulled after an hour, but during that brief period, someone of course managed to copy the episode and it quickly appeared on torrent sites and the infamous Freefolk Game of Thrones leak Reddit.

Gotta clear my plans tonight!

jk I didn't have any plans

Yeah I'll watch that leaked episode tonight, courtesy of HBO Spain.  The show really is flying along, I can't get over how quickly people travel now.  One scene they're at Dragonstone, a rowboat ride away, hey we're in Kings Landing!  Next scene we rowed back to Dragonstone, then finally, yup, we're back at the Wall.

Another thing that bothered my was Littlefinger able to spy on Arya so easily.  Arya's learned all these cool faceless sleuth techniques, but is easily fooled by Littlefinger.

I sort of agree that this season is probably more satisfying than seasons of "Arya and the Hound walk for miles" but I do think that when looking at the show as a whole the jump in pacing will be a weakness.

Or, alternately, to remove it from concepts of good or bad I think it will be very revealing for how this show was made. Early on, you could argue, they were maybe hoping that this could run 8 or even 10 seasons so that the books could come out and they could keep a deliberate pace. Now that it looks like the books might never come out and actors and writers want to move on, they're really having to race to the finish line.

Why you have to hurt me with these truths?

Martin said recently that he expects two books to be released next year, the next in the ASOIAF series and a separate history of Westeros from the Targeryan perspective.

Next year is 2018.  Given that Dance was released in 2011, you can start the 7 or 8 year timer for the final book, provided Martin doesn't die before that.

I'mma wait for Sunday for this one, even though I know it'll be a chilling episode, and there'll be some dramatic shortcuts via fridging.

I'll have nerdery like this to tide me over: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q7_37YcvKs

That's fair, although he has been prolific in the past, perhaps with the show nearing completion he'll find his creative spark again and churn the rest out in the next few years.

It was incredible, don't risk some MAJOR spoilers by waiting.

Can I just say that deep down I secretly think this HBO hack was perpetrated by readers of the books who were frustrated they could no longer spoil things for viewers.

The spoilers have been around for about a year, in writing, but they weren't readily accepted until the premier of this season.

Agree with most of that to be fair. Obviously it's been 18 months or whatever since the last season but I'd imagine if I had watched the last season directly then gone into this one the jump in pace probably would jar more.

Perhaps if they'd evolved the pace to be quicker over the seasons as we've gone along but I still am finding this season more fun to watch really.
