How are the Leafs set for draft picks this year ? Have they traded any away or picked some up ?

The Predators have the Leafs' 4th round pick from the Lombardi/Franson for Lebda deal and the Leafs will get either a 4th or a 6th from Anaheim depending on how many games Lupul is on the roster for.

I remember reading it was 40 games on the reserve list in this season and its a 4th instead of a 6th for the Lupul deal, if that is the case the Anaheim pick will be a 4th.

Wikipedia has it just as a 4th if Lupul is "on the roster" for 40 games or less, a 6th if it's more. I don't know, however, how playoff games may count to that effect.

This link has it as reserve list:

http://thehockeywriters.com/several-deals-come-together-well-in-advance-of-deadline/

Hmmm interesting,  Lupul was on the injured reserve list for 23 games of a 48 game season or 48% of the leafs schedule, holding out on bringing him back just one game later would have bumped that to 50%.  Do they prorate the 40 of 82 games that this article states to reflect the lockout shortened season?  If that is the case Lupul will fetch a 4th round pick if on injured reserve for 49% of the Leafs schedule.  Now if they don't prorate this at all there was no point in bringing him back a game later as it would all be for not and they certainly weren't go to keep him on the reserve list an additional 17 games just to turn that 6th pick into a 4th pick.  If the do prorate even with the Leafs in a battle for a playoff spot one game would have been worth the higher pick absolutely.

anyone getting the feeling that Gardiner will be part of a trade? Not playing tonight or the last game. Clearly the Coach does not favour him and they have Rielly coming up next year to take his role. What do  you think?

He was getting 20+ minutes of ice time before getting scratched for poor defensive play. Hard to say Carlyle doesn't favour him.

Young kid benched for one game for reasons dozens of young kids get benched for, and now he's fallen out of favour?

I'd believe more that the Leafs were playing other guys ahead of Gardiner to "showcase" for a potential trade before Wednesday rather than actually thinking of trading Jake. He has way too much upside to give him up now unless a huge piece comes back.

I'd have to agree that they were showcasing other Defensemen for a trade while also sending a message he has to play better.

Ultimately, you don't trade Jake Gardiner at the trade deadline, IMO.  He's more of an off-season young player for young player swap ala JVR for Schenn if you want to move him.

By huge piece a package going to Edm for a guy like Nugent-Hopkins who is struggling mired in a sophomore jinx type season.  Aside from a deal like this I can't see Nonis dealing Gardiner, after all he is the guy in control not so much RC.

Sportsnet is saying that there is a major announcement coming out of Toronto from the Leafs in a bit. Anybody know what they are talking about? Or did I mishear?

Lupul was just named first star of the week. Sportsnet must really be reaching for viewers right now.

Are you sure it's not an April Fools' joke?

Maybe, but CtB might be right, it's about Lupul?

Great video and I love the FNL homage but god damnit did it grate on me when Burke would refer to the Leafs as a "brand".
