Hutch wasn?t capable, but Babcock has to share in the blame.  It is idiotic ton exclusively your backup goalie only in the 2nd half of back to backs, especially when you consider the leafs don?t skate well on back to backs.  Babcock set Hutch and the leafs up for failure with his stubbornness.  He is wrong, but he won?t admit it.

Actually, the analytics actually back up playing your backup over your starter in the 2nd half of back to backs.  Our understanding is Babcock is listening to the analytics staff and goalie coach recommendations on this.  Do you really want him to stop listening to those staff members? because I have my doubts it will be a positive thing overall.

And the Leaf players not skating well on back to backs... Sounds to me like that is a player problem and the leaders in the room need to step up and hold their teammates accountable.

Analytics is great until it isn?t.  What does it matter who?s fault it is the leafs are lousy in the 2nd of back to backs?  The fact is they are.  So until the coaches or players figure it out the coach needs to ice a lineup that gives them the best chance to win.  It hasn?t worked for two years.  The analytics don?t reflect the leafs in this regard.

So what you're saying is analytics are great until they don't support your argument. Got ya

Nope, not what I?m saying.  Analytics says start your backup in the 2nd half of the back to back.  Leafs have gained 1 of 10 points in these games.  In this case, analytics is wrong for the leafs.  Try something new.  You?re suggesting to follow analytics blindly.  Not a great strategy, as has been proven.

According to a Sportsnet article the other day, they've gone 35-8-7 on the first game, and 19-28-3 on the 2nd game since 16-17.  This totals 54-36-10.  So the suggestion there is that the strategy works overall.

Not to be obtuse, but how is it considered a successful strategy if the leafs have yet to procure home ice advantage in the playoffs?  It could be if you mixed and matched your first game might be a bit worse, but you could atleast be near .500 on the second half.  The strategy hasn?t worked.  The leafs have enough talent to gain home ice.  The same things that plagued them 3 years ago plague them today.

;D
Thats funny unfortunately, it's true.  Hope Kasi is up for the job.

To an extent it is. Hutch's job is to make saves and he didn't. I don't know why people are shocked that some of the blame for his own play should be put on him.

Hockey Fan just posted this on ex: Maple Leafs.

Garrett Sparks just set the Chicago Wolves record for shutout streak at 191:14. Stopped 115 consecutive shots.  Thats three straight shutouts and half a period.

Forget the bring back Cherry campaign, let's start a bring back Sparks one. ;) 8)

If the Marlies don't win the Calder Cup this season I'll be super upset we let Sparks go

There are rumours out there a trade is in the works in order to try and obtain a bonafide back up goaltender . After last night I have to believe there may be some added legitimacy to these rumours .

I don't know why they didn't give Kaskisuo one more chance. He made some stops vs the Pens but the team wasn't exactly trying that game. (at least it didn't seem like it). Couldn't have been worse than the loss Hutchinson put up.

Agreed, seems weird unless they were really trying to access whether Hutch is indeed a "lost cause" at this juncture.  At some point they have to give Kasi his chance and hopefully he will get it in front of a much better effort than the Leafs put in at Pittsburg.

Much like Hutchinson's career, thunder only happens when it's raining.

I was thinking more... 'Go Your Own Way' than 'Don't Stop'

I think as it relates to the Leafs goaltending situation, the clear song to go with off that album is Never Going Back Again

She broke down and let me in
Made me see where I'd been

Been down one time
Been down two times
I'm never going back again

You don't know what it means to win
Come round and see me again

Been down one time
Been down two times
I'm never going back again

Flyers and Avalanche Tuesday & Wednesday up next. 4 and 3 game W streaks. I'd be giving Hutch Tuesdays game. Rantanen put up 4 points in his return from injury and Kadri will probably be a little more motivated after the game in Colorado.

I think if Hutch plays another stinker he has to be gone
