Kessel scores how many?

And the best part about the hot streak is even the Pens look like they could go on a bit of a run. They might be able to overtake the Rags if they keep up their good play.

Ideally we want them to finish 8th in the East (and 16th among playoff teams) and then get eliminated in the first 2 rounds.

We have a complicated agenda this spring.

Yeah like I'd also like to see Kessel do well so hopefully their playoff failure isn't pinned on him.

Wouldn't we want them eliminated in the first round?

Wouldn't matter. The first grouping of playoff teams in the draft order are non-division champs eliminated in rounds 1 and 2.

You're greedy.

Ideally, but I think that's a very precarious proposition. I mean, sure I'd like them to end 16th but they'd be causing me a heart attack while they get there. I would rather have a sure thing a few days before than it coming down to the last day whether they make the playoffs or not.

kessel on track for his lowest sog stats since the boston days. looked pretty unmotivated on the ice.  hopefully the playoffs get his mojo going.

Can we conclude Bozak is better then Crosby? Let's go analytics people, tell me what happened?

Well, for one, he's not playing on a line with Crosby, so, to answer your first question - no.

As for what happened? His shooting rate is down, his shooting percentage is down, and his ice time is down. His possession numbers are actually up fairly substantially, but his line's on-ice shooting percentage is very average. He's being used as a secondary offensive piece rather than a primary threat, and his numbers are reflecting that.

He's played lots with Crosby.

52 points in 74 games.  Not exactly what they were hoping to get out of him.

Oh I know. I'm sure they were expecting much more from him and hoping he would soar with linemates like Crosby and Makin. The thing is, I'm pretty sure he can redeem himself and salvage his first season with the Pens if he starts scoring in bunches come playoff time.

Kessel's on fire.  Scored the tying goal and assisted on Crosby's OT winner.  7 points in his last 2 games and 54 points on the year.

Kessel has more points than Jonathan Toews. I have both of them on a fantasy team.

Since the Pens traded for Hagelin Kessel has 29 points in 32 games. Hagelin has 21 in 30.

Pittsburgh could actually be a pretty dangerous team to face in the playoffs, especially if Malkin returns soon. Crosby is absolutely dominating, Letang is crushing it too with 44 points in 40 games since their coaching change, and Kessel, Kunitz, Hornqvist, and Hagelin are all providing good to great secondary scoring.

Just to cap that point off, points since the Perron for Hagelin trade (which you could argue put everyone in their proper spot on the roster):

Crosby 44 points in 32 games
Letang 30 points in 31 games
Kessel 29 points in 32 games
Hornqvist 25 points in 32 games
Kunitz 23 points in 30 games
Hagelin 21 points in 30 games
Malkin 17 points in 14 games

That's the offensive juggernaut everyone was expecting at the beginning of the year. Crosby and Malkin scoring PPG+. Kessel scoring at PPGish. And then 3 other top-6 forwards scoring at about a 60-point pace. Fleury's putting up above-average numbers and Letang's playing at a Norris-nomination level.

Well, I'm a little bummed that my hopes of Pittsburgh just squeaking into the playoffs, getting Washington in the 1st round and bowing out to leave us with the 15th overall pick won't go down but I guess I'm happy the 1st is pretty safe at this point.
