Berger's close sources are Eklund and the guy that sells burrito's outside the Staple's Center.

There was a 2014 draft pick traded the other day, forget which deal, but it must be allowed for two drafts away anyway.
I don't think there's a limit on how far away picks can be traded for. It's really more that GMs generally won't accept deals where picks are more than a draft or two away.
Yeah, I mean, if 1st rounders can move in RFA compensation four years out I don't see how you couldn't trade them.

Nik? said:I will say that in the interview I linked to a while back where Burke said he wouldn't sign 10 year deals there was also a question directed his way where Bernier's name wasn't mentioned but it was pretty clearly about Bernier(or it applied to Bernier anyway) and whether or not the Leafs would be interested in taking on a talented young unproven goalie and Burke was pretty firm in saying no.

It's been buzzing around twitter from one of the self proclaimed rumor-heads. Nothing legit yet.
Frattin and a pick for Bernier is the suggestion. Worth discussing on a slow day I guess.
Personally, I don't think Burke is willing to send Frattin for Bernier. I'll be very surprised if he does this.
I don't know what Burke is willing to do but I'd be very surprised as well.
I like Frattin but not seeing how he and a 2nd round pick is too steep a price to pay for one of the top up-and-coming goaltenders in the league.
2 years ago, Bernier was expected to usurp Quick. It was almost assumed it would happen but Quick just kept getting better. It wasn't like Bernier lost the job.. he never got much of a chance to take it.
I'm not saying Bernier is the next great elite goalie but he's one of the most promising ones in the league. To sacrifice Frattin and a 2nd, while a tad painful, isn't that steep of a price. Far less than the Leafs have paid for goalies in the last 5 years.
Of course this all assumes the rumor is even remotely legit, but hey .. we are here to make stuff up and speculate too.
I agree that it's not as much in terms of talent cost as we've seen in the past but I look at the Lindback deal, and maybe that's a mistake on my part, but I don't see the need to send him in a trade for Bernier. I could be wrong there, easily, but Frattin seems like the kind of player that could be pretty useful for the Leafs.
I know the Leafs need some more bullets in the gun at the goaltending position, and maybe I've simply seen more of Matt and his ability and it's clouding my judgement, but I really like his game.

jonlleafs said:Right, so Burke can't use misdirection so that he's not creating buzz about a certain player and possibly keeping any transactions low-key? He has no obligation to be an open book to the media or fans regarding transactions. In fact, I'd much rather he keep them quiet so that it doesn't attract other bidders.

Wow, you need to relax. I didn't say Burke can or can't do anything. I was just relaying something he said that I thought was relevant to the conflicting reports.

Hampreacher said:Word has it via the rumour mill leafs have had no contact with Kings re Bernier for several days. There was some thought leafs might tarket Backstrom in Minnesota. Might be nothing more than talk. A might expensive!
On That's Hockey, Bob McKenzie stated the following.
"As of right now (can change in a moment) I fully expect James Reimer and Ben Scrivens to be the goaltenders (on saturday), but the Leafs are kicking tires on Jon Bernier, and now that Brian Burke and Francois Allaire are gone, there may be more interest. Jon Quick is coming off of back surgery, so LA wants to make sure he is 100% before moving Bernier, but the Leafs may get more pieces back that could make it interesting"

I agree. He may or may not be an upgrade or Reimer, he hasn't proven much at the NHL level yet.
