On kind of a related note, Who's that fairly reliable Russian dude who sends out the odd tweet? - What does he do and what's his hashtag? - Just another guy I might consider adding to my "follow" list.

@dchesnokov

?

Yes, I believe that's him, thanks.

The maximum allowed on the the CBA entry level contract is 875k.

If he's hoping to score more that that, he doesn't know the NHL rules.

If that's the case, how did Cervenka get 925k salary (+2.85M in bonuses) on an EL contract?  Isn't the 925 guaranteed?

Yea, the maximum is 925k,  it was 875 in 2008.

Either way, he can't get the 1.5-2.0 that you mentioned.

Best he can get in terms of guaranteed money, if he plays in the NHL, is his base plus max 10% of base signing bonus... that was the number I used in an earlier post, 1.0175 mil.

It's not very likely he'll hit most of the schedule a bonuses, 20g, 35a, 60p... those seem like a pipe dream for a first year, presumed bottom six, NHL'r.

There's just no way he'll get more guaranteed money in his first year in the NHL compared to the KHL. To me the conversation would be,'come over, crack our bottom six and earn your first year, show us what you've got while also risking way less money in the AHL if you can't.'

I don't know how reasonable he or his agent are but I'd consider throwing the ice time bonus and +/- as they both have a minimum 42 games played requirement and tell him, if he can crack the roster, he'll get those games and a shot at another chunk of dough.

I don't know if Bozak had the ppg bonus in his first contract but he was 5 games short of of the minimum 42 his first year with the required .73 ppg, fwiw, same for ice time.

Just an FYI, the 10% signing bonus is included as part of the $925K max base, not in addition to it.

Ah, crunched by the numbers again, thanks.

Barring the Leafs actually pulling a Luongo or similar upper tier goaltender into the organization, I would actually rather they try Komarov on the blueline before they look outside the organization to pay a guy 2-3 million to be mediocre like they have with Armstrong.  Give him a 1-year deal and see if he can make anything of it.  If he can't, well, then you let him go back to Finland/the KHL/SEL or whereever he wants to play.

This is where I'm at with these types of players.  SM-Liiga/KHL/SEL is no NHL and these types of players find that out pretty quickly.  What was the name of that swedish player that came over with Gus?  He was so awesome in the SEL and couldn't put it together in the NHL.

I'd love to have him on the roster, because he'll hopefully be an agitator/pest who can provide energy to the lineup and hopefully make the team a little more difficult to play against.  Not going to expect anything more than 3rd/4th line, and hopefully no one else does.

A lot of teams that have been successful recently have had a guy on their roster who can annoy the opposing team, and I like what I've read about Komarov:

"He is fast, he hits players significantly bigger than him and he goes to the net hard. The 24 year-old is listed as center, but can play on the wing as well.

...

Komarov is born for the smaller, NHL-sized rinks. He likes to hit and searches for every opportunity, which is much easier to find on North American ice sheets compared to European ones."

On the third line, do you mean?

Possibly. (My bad). Unless we still have Komisarek, and then we might as well try Komarov there ahead of him too.  ;)

If the Leafs can't get rid of Komisarek in any way shape or form outside of a buyout ( which I don't like at all if it's counted against the cap ) I've suggested putting him on the 4th line. I know it won't happen but it would mitigate his terrifying awesomeness trying to play defense.

Stand here Battleship...

Leo Komarov will join the #Leafs this summer, according to his KHL team's official website (s/t @IgorEronko)

Might want to still wait for an official announcement, but it's looking pretty likely he'll be at training camp.

DarrenDreger: Leafs sign Leo Komarov to 1 year deal. 4th line potential. Described as "Kaleta-like". Shift disturber.

I like him already. I hope he rooms with Brown and they form chemistry when they are getting in the other teams faces.
