Well, that's pretty compelling evidence. Did he twitter-block said reporter too?

It's equally as compelling as the evidence that he's asking for $5M per for 6 years.

I do wish someone would get a reporter to explain who leaks what, when, why. I doubt that when a player's inflated contract demands come out they're being invented by the reporter, as the more media-hating group of fans often imagine. But I can only guess that it's usually the team leaking in order to put some public pressure on the player to sign for less. I'm sure those who do the reporting know who's trying to exercise what power with these leaks at which point in the negotiations. I doubt it's something they'd clearly work into their articles, as revealing the game would probably alienate sources.

If Kadri wants 5 million I hope he enjoys a long winter eating cheeseburgers.

Meh. If they are really asking for this, it's worth trying to get it at this point. They will come down to the bridge deal at some point for sure. Kadri really holds no power on this deal.

Exactly. There's a huge gap between "wants" and "Will not play for anything except...". People got all out of sorts when the Bozak 8 year proposal got leaked but there's nothing about starting from a big position that says that a reasonable middle point can't get found.

Recently, Kadri told reporters that the current contract talks have started to become a ?distraction? and that he was ?being more than reasonable? and it was up to the Leafs at this point.

Though I agree with you Nik, it sounds like this kids head is up in the clouds. That being said....who really knows what's going on.

" The New Jersey Devils re-signed centre Adam Henrique to a six-year, $24 million contract on Monday. Last season, Henrique scored 11 goals and added five assists for 16 points in 42 games. The 23-year-old started the year with the AHL's Albany Devils but played in only 16 games before suffering a thumb injury. "  I would say Kadri is worth at least as much....

Well that's good then...because that means we can't afford him.

McKenzie saying Leafs and Kadri not in same ballpark. Kadri wants Tavares money (6 yrs at 5.5ish) and Leafs want a Subban type deal.

I think we should trade Kadri for Tavares straight up.

I might even throw in Franson.

Oh well, so Kadri will be sitting out.  I understand he wants to cash in, but prior to this shortened season he had 19 points in 51 games, not exactly screaming $5M+ type of player.

I find it so hard to believe that Kadri would ask for a contract like that.

He's yet to play a full season in the league and he somehow thinks he warrants that kind of cash?

It's mind boggling that anyone would feel so entitled. As Zee said, he had 19 points in 51 games going into this past shortened season. I personally think paying him anything more than 2.5 is paying too much...right now anyway.

I think his agent is taking the no-harm-in-trying approach.  Might as well pitch it and keep pushing in the hopes the Leafs bite, and failing that take the bridge deal at the last minute and look like the one who took a hit for the good of the team. Could he sit out? He might but it won't be good for him to do it.

I suppose he feels hard done by and that the organization held him back in the minors too long, but really he doesn't have much leverage here.  I keep looking back to the Subban contract, that worked out pretty well for both sides and he'll cash in huge now.

Yeah may just be starting high to meet in the middle. Kind of like the owners did. Might just be part of the negotiation process.

I imagine it's something along those lines, yeah, and his agent is probably advising him to wait until the last possible moment to see if the Leafs crack at all.

When is the last possible moment though? I don't think it helps his cause much (or his season) if he misses training camp. He's going to want to have a great year if he plans on going back to the bargaining table again next summer for a longer term contract.

If Kadri wants to earn his full pay cheque this season, about 2 weeks from now. If he just wants to get paid, then it's the end of November. If he's not signed by 5 PM Eastern Dec 1st, he can't play in the NHL this season.

That strikes me as overrating the general importance of a training camp. So long as Kadri is keeping fit I don't think it matters much.

I was thinking the same thing. Fitness isn't the issue it was in the 80s and before. It's a year-round thing for players these days. Training camp is more about getting into the rhythm of the games and getting your timing down and such, and, really, if Kadri can get there by the last week of camp or so, he'll be close enough to the rest of the pack in those areas that there shouldn't be any noticeable difference once the season gets going. Even if he misses camp completely, if he's under contract for opening night, he won't really be that far behind anyone else. It only really starts to become an issue if he's still not signed late into October and beyond.

Kadri denied his contract demands are what McKenzie is reporting. On Twitter he replied to Bob with "false Bobo"
