We can all agree that the team needs to be better defensively.  That is exactly what carlyle said he was preaching all year.  If only the players responded to that message.  If the players don't play for now two coaches, maybe we need to change the core players.

The players played as if they tuned Carlyle out so they were not listening to his message.

They also tuned out wilson and maurice before that.  Playing bad defensively in toronto has been around since the first lockout.

They didn't tune out Maurice.  Maurice was part of Cliff Fletcher's hatchet disaster as temporary GM.

I don't think they really tuned out Wilson, either. I wouldn't even say they tuned out Carlyle. They were still very much playing his system - it's just that his system was, you know, not a good fit for the roster.

With Wilson it was more so the goalies tuned out saving the puck.

Why bash the goalies when Carlyle basically bashed Reimer in public?  It would have been better if Carlyle said something positive in public then took Reimer aside privately and told him he sucked but he could play better and hoped he would.

Randy doesnt use a lot of tact and this is imperative in the NHL with the kind of young players we have today, like all young they need to be mollycoddled and praised, not thrown under the bus to the wolves of the Toronto media. We need a coach whom nutures and protects his players especially in the T.O. environment. He can discipline in private when he needs to.

Not sure what you're getting at in relation to my comment.

It is sort of difficult to do a decent job when the boss will be overly critical no matter how well the job was done.

That's dwelling on a comical level of exaggeration.

A comical level of exaggeration would be calling Carlyle a most awesome NHL coach.

Yeah, but no one called him that. I'm rooting for him to stay at this point, if not just to bait the hysterics.

If Carlyle stays Rogers should broadcast Leaf games on the Comedy Channel.  What the team needs is a Patrick Roy type coach.

Colorado was one of the bottom teams in the league according to advanced stats like corsi and fenwick.  Just a bit better than the Leafs.

And what if we fire Carlyle, and the next coach fails to get the team in the playoffs?  What then?  I wouldn't place all your hopes in a coaching change.

Nobody's giving any thought to the possibility of that happening around here. I suppose we would be in the running for McDavid, which really isn't too bad of a thing?

You do realize that a lot of people are less concerned with the results than they are with the performance. If the team plays better next season and still misses the playoffs, I'll be quite content with the coaching change.
