Juuuust fast enough to turn a 1-on-3 into a 1-on-1 and make it stick. I did not think he had this in his repertoire.

Great little play. Nice screen. Can we nickname him Mittens? :)

Do not start this.

I think we should have a rule forbidding the use of nicknames, unless the nickname is simply a "sy" on the tail of their last name.  Because those ones are the best.

Let's see if he establishes himself at the NHL level first, shall we? (I do agree that Mittens is a viable nickname for him, though.)

Can't you just let me have this during a once in a hundred year pandemic? [emoji23]

I was going to toss this into the draft thread, but it makes as much sense here, as a lens to assess prospects once they're in the development pipeline.

Examples of transferable skills
Shooting
  • Shooting in stride and off either foot
  • Shooting off of a pass (bonus: shooting off a bad pass)
  • Having proper shooting technique
  • Taking shots from the danger areas instead of coming down the wing and shooting from distance

Physical
  • Puck protection while keeping ice vision & awareness
  • Faster acceleration
  • Separation of the upper and lower body to multitask and blend multiple skills together

Skating
  • Changing speeds to be deceptive
  • Carrying speed through turns
  • Being able to crossover and be efficient when skating

Mental
  • Understanding time, speed, and place
  • Processing speed
  • Being able to take adversity and turn it into a growth accelerator
  • Dictating play rather than reacting to play
  • Avoiding point shots and other low percentage plays to look for better ways to create offense
  • Having a manipulation mindset

Passing
  • Full ice vision - With and without pressure
  • Being able to use multiple styles of passes (hook, slips, etc.)
  • Leading your teammate into beneficial space

Specifically re: Korshkov, I see not too many of these in the toolbox, but he's really good at getting to the net front on time (ahead of checks, or in the blindspots on established defense), as well as feeding teammates around the net. Like JvR very-lite. Still a huge waste of a high pick, but not a complete dud if he can get a bit more out of his skating.

Oh boy it sure sounds like the fanbase is going to treat Amirov like Nylander; I mean, I am sort of already treating him like Nylander-lite with more defensive awareness and fewer offensive tools. This is not to say Amirov is good at defense (what young scoring forward is?) as he is apparently still not up to snuff for the very structured philosophy of Ufa's coach.

Looks like there might be a bit of a tug of war over where Amirov might play after his contract with his hometown team expires this season. Two more KHL seasons or try to make the jump to the AHL/NHL?

Edit: another Amirov profile today, more from the on-ice side

Still a bit sour Marat Khusnutdinov almost fell down to the bottom half of the second round for us. This is Amirov riding shotgun to two Judd Brackett picks, and currently holds the better KHL box stats.
