Ranking Prospects 2020-2021

He will be a real boon to the Marlies next year. Hopefully he has the stuff to make it to the big team, he seems very talented.

Isn't too early to project that just yet?

I think this is "expected NHLers" like "expected goals" are expected. xG isn't equal to actual goals, it's a projection. Likewise here, as I understand it. But how accurate? *shrug*

Generally pretty accurate. Hard to separate the rough development paths post draft (Buffalo, Edmonton) but the really good players just overcome that obstacle.

They probably want a do over on all 3 picks they had in a row.

13,14,15 - Zboril, DeBrusk, Senyshyn
16,17,18 - Barzal, Connor, Chabot

That's not even a benefit of hindsight thing either, people were stunned at those picks as they were happening. There'd probably be some moves that had to be made to get around cap issues but imagine how absolutely gross Boston would be right now if their scouting team didn't galaxy brain that day.

Probably. DeBrusk is at least a contributing NHL player. He would have been a fine pick near the end of the round - and, even if they took him in that group, but also got 2 of the guys that went right after their picks, no one would be calling him out as a terrible pick, just not the best available option.

The other two? Yikes.

I still want the team to use analytics to help build the team for next season but I certainly have lost a lot of the appetite for expected stats.  I don't care that the Leafs should have won games 7-2 based on xGF anymore.

Good article on our prospects in the Athletic today, one guy has us ranked 4th, Wheeler #10.
Now we just have to trade Mogen for some nice picks and a decent prospect.
