Ranking Prospects 2020-2021

Marlies with most NHL readiness are Sandin, Liljegren and Robertson.  I would say once Malgin and Amirov arrive that only Malgin would see an opportunity with the Leafs (if injuries occur).  Amirov probably needs a full year with the Marlies to develop and learn our systems.

He could still play, couldn't he? Since he's on their reserve list? I've thought there's been some NCAA guys who signed super late and still played in the playoffs but I could be wrong and don't feel like checking that rule. Regardless, we'd have to have like 10 injuries at forward probably before he was even remotely considered for that so it seems like a moot point.

Yeah, because he's already technically a member of the organization, he could play, as unlikely as that would be. Probably not the best idea to throw a kid into the playoffs for his first professional game in North America in the middle of a global pandemic and such.

That doesn't mean he wouldn't be a good addition, but let's let him adjust a bit before throwing him into the fire. If he dominates the AHL to the point where it doesn't look like he has anything more to learn down there, then bring him up. But, since that's pretty unlikely, the team can and should take their time with him.

I don't really see why that rules out him signing an ELC that starts this season (would obviously slide if that happens, but he'd still get a nice signing bonus). To me that possibly says both sides might want to wait until after the trade deadline to get things done, just in case.

It mostly just rules him out of the NHL playoffs.

I think if he signs his ELC he can play in the playoffs. Cale Makar signed on April 14 2019 and played his first NHL game in the playoffs on April 15, game 3 of the opening round against Calgary.

Nicky Bobby profile before trade deadline; he works too hard

YAY
Good news, I really like this prospect and think he can be a mainstay on our defence if his learning and development track keep in the proper direction.

I was pretty high on him going into the draft for his smart sound play playing against professionals, and then I got higher when I watched him get drafted after a trade down (lol sens), and then even higher at the WJCs when his offense was unleashed, and yeah. He's a rightshot Sandin.

I'm happy with how Dubas' drafts have gone but we should probably wait for some of these guys to get even a whiff of the NHL before talking about how his sleeper picks are a success.

Another award for Holmberg. This one considers both regular season and playoffs, so his playoff performance weighs heavily here.

His draft coverage (2018) was sparse. His current scouting coverage is also relatively sparse. He's another one of those plug-and-play wingers (Zach Hyman, Connor Brown, Joey Anderson, Andreas Johnsson, Trevor Moore) that Dubas just likes picking up; where on the skill spectrum he lands requires a bit more information and whether he has an appetite for crossing over to the AHL/NHL next season.
