I think this is "expected NHLers" like "expected goals" are expected. xG isn't equal to actual goals, it's a projection. Likewise here, as I understand it. But how accurate? *shrug*Bender said:

Generally pretty accurate. Hard to separate the rough development paths post draft (Buffalo, Edmonton) but the really good players just overcome that obstacle.

That's not even a benefit of hindsight thing either, people were stunned at those picks as they were happening. There'd probably be some moves that had to be made to get around cap issues but imagine how absolutely gross Boston would be right now if their scouting team didn't galaxy brain that day.

He would have been a fine pick near the end of the round - and, even if they took him in that group, but also got 2 of the guys that went right after their picks, no one would be calling him out as a terrible pick, just not the best available option.
