Schenn's Next deal

It certainly is strange we haven't seen a deal yet. You would think negotiations would be pretty straight forward. Perhaps Burke and co. have been on vacation for a loooooong time..

Four of the biggest name RFAs without contracts (Doughty, Schenn, Bailey, Marchand) are all represented by the same agency, Newport Sports (with Don Meehan and Pat Morris). Maybe they're focusing on the biggest name (Doughty) right now. Or maybe they're just playing hardball with all their negotiations. Could just be a coincidence though. But these guys also represent Brad Richards and so were responsible for the fiasco that happened with him on July 1st.

True enough. At least all parties seem optimistic going forward. Still, leaving it last minute if you ask me.

If it turns out the Leafs have 6 decent d-men + Schenn, put Schenn on the wing.

hahahahaahahahah

that's funnier than 'Kaberle should be a forward'!!!

I think Schenn would be a good forward and more physical than any other regular playing forward the Leafs have.  I am still concerned that they are weak physically up front.

So your methodology: A Team of Mike Brown's

That is what you took from that? That he wants to move Schenn to a forward position to make the team a bit more physical on the forward line, that he wants the whole forward group to be that kind of player?

Just a thought but given his physical presence and great defense and the Leafs being pretty good on D, what about using Schenn on the Raptors as a Shooting Guard in the Dennis Johnson-John Starks model?

He wants to move Schenn to the forward line.

1) He is physical
2) He does not have much offensive prowess.

So being physical with limited offensive ability is the way forward with this team. People rip on nutman for his viewpoints, but this is 100x more nonsensical than anything he's ever suggested.

There is a rumor on the Flames site that the Leafs are looking at the possibility of moving Schenn if a contract agreement can't be reached.

Some people say he's very reliable, though, I'm not so sure. However, I don't doubt that Burke has at least considered the possibility of seriously listening to offers for Schenn, though, I doubt that he's shopping him.

I call BS. Why wouldn't you let a guy sit a few games, when you have so many D men that are NHL caliber? It would be nice to have Schenn on opening day, but if he and his agent are playing hard ball here, he can come closer on the Leafs deal or wait, he's RFA, not pending UFA, so his leverage is limited IMO.

I don't doubt that Burke would listen to offers, but he definitely isn't shopping him, nor do I think Schenn is even remotely going to get traded from Toronto anytime soon.

I think he has a better track record with the NFL. He posts stuff from pretty much every sport, there's no way he's that connected. Most of his NHL stuff hasn't come to anything, and the stuff that has was somewhat widely known (Carter to Columbus, which he bragged about for quite some time). And he's posted a fair bit of Leafs-related items, none of which have come true. He's also incredibly full of himself.

Read on Twitter that he's already been wrong on Schenn on a number of occasions. I see no reason not to give him the Eklund treatment. And regardless, I'd be there wouldn't be anyone interested in Schenn and in the contract situation. Also, according to NHLSources (no idea who this is...) TheNHLSources NHL Insider
NHL Rumor: Maple Leafs RFA Luke Schenn is close to a multi-year deal with the team believed to be worth $2.75-3.25M per

A steal at that price... hope at least the part of closing in to a multi-year deal is true...

I have a feeling nothing's going to happen until Doughty's signed. Not really impressed with the negotiations right now...

Not impressed with who? Doughty/LA or Schenn/Leafs?

Did you hear what Doughty turned down?  Not really even in the same remote ballpark.

That's actually the most popular theory out there right now. Not exactly sure why though, the two situations are completely different. If the agent can't multi-task then there's a problem.

9 years at $6.5M wasn't it?
