Rangers to announce the new team captain today. Does Richards fit the bill?

What do people think of this choice? Seems somewhat odd to me... but then again I don't know much about the Rangers' players right now.

Only if he changes his name to Ryan Callahan.

In 131 NHL games spread mostly over two seasons, Turris has scored just 19 goals.
With the recent acquisition of veteran center Daymond Langkow, Turris now sits third on the team's depth chart (at best) behind Langkow and a healthy Martin Hanzal.

Still, league sources told ESPN.com that Turris is looking for a three-year deal worth an average of slightly more than $4 million annually or a two-year deal worth slightly more than $3 million.

Best of luck to you, Kyle. I'm sure your 46 career points command the utmost respect.

I wouldn't say he's a bust yet, but he definitely needs to realize he's a discount player right now. I would imagine a 2 year, 2M per in order to prove he's got what it takes to be in the NHL. Right now he doesn't belong.

I don't quite understand the stance either, unless he just wants a trade out of Phoenix or something, because it's unrealistic from all angles.

That's really the only angle that makes sense. I mean, based on the way he's played, he should be happy Phoenix might be willing to sign him for more than the league minimum. He hasn't produced well, he's weak on the draw, doesn't compete hard for the puck, etc. He still has some very good potential, but, until he shows real signs of being able to realize it, he's not going to get paid for it.

Sources say the purpose is to cleanse assets and ensure all outstanding liabilities are taken care of.

Technically, the NHL has been "financially managing" the team in conjunction with the team's lenders, for more than a year.

I had no clue that the NHL was financially managing the Stars, that's 2 teams in the southern US that the NHL has to help take care of, although this case isn't as bad as the Phoenix one, but still.

Get sense what transpires in next 24 hours with Doughty-LAK is critical. This may, and I said may, be perilously close to going off rails.

Glad we're not getting similar ominous tweets/comments about the Leafs and Schenn.

Yeah. The Doughty situation is getting interesting. My guess is the Kings will cave in enough to get something done, but . . .

Also, this, also from Bobby Mac:

There's been no movement/dialogue in last 24 hours in Turris-PHX situation so that doesn't look like it'll be resolved any time soon.

No reason for Phoenix to cave here, since Turris really hasn't done anywhere close to enough to make a difference in the team's performance. Turris may want to start looking at European options.

The Bailey situation is also somewhat interesting. Apparently, it's Islanders team policy that if a player isn't signed by the beginning of camp (which, as we know, is tomorrow), then they don't get a contract for that season. They're certainly cutting it close.

Happened to Bergenheim in 06/07. Spent the year in Europe. Sounds like Bailey won't be going down that road though, signed a 2-year, $2.1mil contract.

FRISCO, TEX. - The Dallas Stars will be sold to Vancouver businessman Tom Gagliardi, subject to a court-approved auction and the permission of the National Hockey League.

The franchise's current owners, Dallas Stars, L.P. announced on Thursday that it, along with several affiliates, will have the club as well as all of its hockey-related assets purchased, and that the process should take roughly 60- to-75 days.

To accomplish this end, the current ownership filed for bankruptcy earlier Thursday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, under a "prepackaged" Chapter 11 plan -- which had the full backing of the NHL as well as lenders involved with the Stars' ownership, all of whom voted to accept that plan prior to its filing.

"Today's filing culminates months of cooperative effort by the League, the Club, the Club's lenders and Dallas Arena, LLC," said NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly in a statement. "It represents an extremely positive step toward what we expect will be an orderly transition to new ownership for the Dallas Stars."

The club stated that the ongoing legal process to transfer ownership will have no effect on the team or its business operations. Under terms of the agreement, Dallas can use its available cash to fund operations, all player contracts and other salaries will be honored, and the essential fan experience at American Airlines Center will remain unchanged.

Well the process went a lot smoother then the Phoenix fiasco has been going on for years.

That's because the two situations aren't really alike. The problem in Phoenix is that it's going to be very difficult for any owner to make money in that location. The problem in Dallas was Tom Hicks' financial problems. Dallas isn't a terrible market that's been losing buckets of money.

So Doughty and the Kings aren't happy... Parise is rumored to be unhappy. A match?

Some thought it wasn't a problem when I suggested that that top left wing position was going to cause a bit of problems for the Devils, but just yesterday it was suggested by the media that Kovalchuk wants to play left wing.

Obviously he didn't cause a problem about it, but you can tell that he prefers the left wing, so they definitely IMO, have a bit of a situation that will have to be resolved, having Parise and Kovy both preferring to play the top left wing position.

So I don't think your suggestion is out of the question, however I don't think either team wants to give up their pieces in that deal, especially the Kings.

I expect the Kings are going to put all the pressure on Doughty to sign and not really consider trading him. My guess is they're willing to risk having him miss the season if it means being able to get him under contract long-term. It's going to be an interesting situation to watch. As for Parise, I get the feeling that if he can't work something out with the Devils, he'll really want to test the UFA market.

Having two all-star left-wingers isn't really a bad problem to have:

Parise-Elias-x
Kovalchuk-Zajac-x

A guy like Josefson will probably cover for Zajac while he's out with an injury. And they've got some young guys who will fight for the right wing spots, or a guy like Zubrus or Clarkson maybe. Both left wingers will still get plenty of ice-time with Kovalchuk playing the point on the powerplay.
