2019-2020 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Just something to remember: from November 20th to February 3rd the Leafs had the 3rd best record in the entire NHL. That's over a 1/3 of the season and was literally just over 2 weeks ago. Even if you include this past 2 week stretch where they've struggled they still have the 6th best record in the league since Keefe was hired.
...

Just tell me straight. Should I panic? yes/no?

Did he call Rielly "Margaret"?

Agree with most of what he has to say. I do think they may as well get something for Barrie if they can, but if they choose not to I get that as well. Probably the best course of action is to let this team play out the season and then evaluate where they are. If these guys can't/won't pick it up at this crucial time of the year, then maybe significant changes are needed during the summer. The efforts the last couple of games are just not good enough.

If Scandella gets what he got I don't see why Barrie doesn't go for more. He'd be the marquee OFD being moved this deadline and GMs are batshit insane with the prices they'd pay.

I think the leafs should give Adam Foote a call and give him the responsibility for the defence.

I don't get why the team has dropped to a two line team... Spread it out and put Willy back where he's best:

Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Korshkov-Tavares-Nylander
Engvall-Kerfoot-Kapanen
Clifford-Spezza-Timashov

Yeah I think they gotta get Kerfoot back at 3C too. Other options just aren't working. It might not be where he's at his best but it's better for the team.

I agree also. I think Korshkov should be playing.

If we want to stick with Tavares Nylander, how about
Hyman - Matthews - Marner
Tavares - Nylander - Malgin
Engvall - Kerfoot - Kapanen
Clifford - Spezza - Timashov/Korshkov

Nylander is not as good a centre as JT.
I would put Human back with JT and Willy and put Korshkov or Engvall with Matthews.

Yes but Tavares is butt right now.

Matthews and Nylander have 69 of Toronto?s 212 goals. From my very cursory glance around the top teams of the league, I think it?s the highest combined top-2 goals per team.

Boston: Pastrnak/Bergeron 68
Washington: Ovechkin/Oshie 64
Edmonton: Draisaitl/McDavid 64

Everyone needs to read this because it?s the first and second time the word ?tummy? shows up in a hockey article ever.

Yea, these top heavy tweaks have been a little puzzling to me. That 3rd line looked a lot better with Kerfoot down the middle. I wouldn't hate seeing Clifford taking Korshkov's spot (or Hyman's) on your line combos there but that certainly looks the most balanced.

Pretty solid rant. I think it's fair to say that they are an immensely talented team with huge potential but the effort is not consistently there. Too often players like Mitch Marner coast around, give the puck away and generally lack any real intensity. Part of the problem is that some of these guys are overpaid by several million, so they exist in that shadow. But that doesn't explain the lack of effort

Of course, none of that matters unless Andersen stops playing like the worst goalie in the league. Why is he starting again?

Cool stuff coming from a beauty of a floater himself
Maybe so,  but doesn't mean he's wrong.

I've felt all season, the best thing for this "core" group might be to miss the playoffs this year. They seem to lack urgency and the will to win and getting bashed in the head (i.e. missing the playoffs) might be what it takes to get through to them. Some upgrades on defense would help too.

I think the Leafs are an immensely talented team if you ignore the defense, goaltenders and bottom two lines.

Overpaid. Heartless. Soft. Gutless.
First time in 35 years as a leafs fan that I honestly don?t care. Nothing to get excited about, they cannot play to there pay.
