Game 59 Sat Feb 18/2012 Leafs at Canucks 7 pm CBC, am640

Sedin sisters play has been scrutinized out here the last couple weeks as they have been pretty quiet on the scoresheet on most nights. 7 points between the two of them with still one period to go. We always seem to get players out of slumps.

And slumping powerplays, slumping penalty kills etc etc

That is more comforting to read.

It is, and it's a big reason why I don't see goaltending being the major culprit here. If this team could improve their defensive play, the current tandem is more than good enough to give the Leafs a chance to win every night. It's just that, when the team breaks down defensively . . . well, see tonight's game for what happens.

When they start struggling, they're either not shooting the puck hard enough to get it out, or they're shooting it right at the other team. They can't execute properly. It's not really a coaching thing, either, because, a lot of the time, they get into the right position, they get to the puck and they get the chance to move it out. It's when that fails that things really break down. The problem is with a lot of the guys on the ice, not the guy behind the bench or the guys between the pipes.

oh well ..i would have found it very surprising if the leafs had of been able to win this game...depressing that once again they weren't able to stay in it ...there's definitely a well defined line between the upper teams and then the leafs..which i don't think can be fixed...but deep down we knew this wasn't their year anyway...and they are improving ..hopefully next year they'll narrow the gap a bit more

Wow glad to be missing this one

I love how our squad can come into a game like this where expectations are low and still embarrass themselves by sucking harder than ever

Just when you think the Leafs are showing progress amongst the teams in the league, a game like tonight shows just how far this team still has to go.  :(

Thankfully Washington lost. How we still hold a playoff spot is beyond me. Hopefully this is our Ottawa-esque bump in the road where our swoon soon turns back into a boon.

Wow, Kulemin reminds us he is still on the roster.

Yes, before now, his defensive responsibility and willingness to actually engage physically had practically rendered him invisible.

Stop finding excuses for his lackluster play. He has less goals than Steckel for crying out loud. How many teams can afford to have 6 goal 2nd liners and still be competitive
