Game 8 - Leafs @ Flyers - Monday Oct 24th 2011 - 19:00 EST - 4-2 Loss

I really really really feel for Gustavsson tonight. He deserves a win and hasn't really put a foot wrong.

Agree. Can't say he deserved to win the other night, so maybe it balances out.

Either way, he needed this kind of start in a big way, and hopefully it bodes well for the rest of the season.

Wow can anyone on this team pass? Phaneuf can't make a 6 foot pass to Kessel so I wonder?

Puck was hopping.

You only have to look back a couple minutes to see Kadri make a beautiful pass to Frattin.

There you go.

You mean the pass where he intentionally deflected the pun off a Flyers player to Frattin? I mean, clearly that's what he did...

Well if they can be criticized for inaccurate passes when the pucks not settled, I figure they can be praised when the puck bounces right for them.

I just thought that, when not under pressure, he could settle the puck and make a clean pass. But you're right. Rushing it and screwing up works too.

Works for your posts.

Clever, but proves my point.

I know we needed a goal, but I question putting our two riskiest defencemen (Liles and Gardiner) and our three weakest defensive top-6 forwards (Lupul, Kadri, and Kessel) all out on the ice together.

Saw that too and I agree. Wilson also had Phaneuf in deep previously and has been sending Liles deep (not just on Jagr's last goal). It seemed a little early for a one goal game. Pinch a little but if they keep going in behind the net, they were bound to get burned.

This team is so bad at defensive coverage. Gustavsson isn't the problem, we just can't play freaking defensive hockey. What a waste of a great game by Goose.

Thankyou and I'm not going to rag on you for stating this as I did the other night. Good teams play good without the puck. Along with the obvious speciality team play that is the other area that has not improved since Wilson got here. They give up way too many good chances each and every game. Is it a wonder why we always complain about players breaking out of slumps, scoring their first goals of the season etc. Now we know why.

At least we should be getting Bozak and Reimer back. Hopefully Tim Connolly as well.

How long is Army going to be out for?

Might as well play it out 2 mins and pull the goalie instead. That was the left side's responsibility though, I don't think Gardiner did much wrong, Liles bears the greatest share to me.

On the last goal, can't really blame the Leafs for playing aggressively, gotta take risks to when you're down a goal late.

This game is a perfect example of the reason I said the Leafs won't make the playoffs. Teams that otherwise play a good game and get good goaltending, and lose because of special teams, don't get into the playoffs.

Did the Leafs even have a power play SHOT tonight??

Besides the obvious defensive breakdowns the other problem is that we got very little offense going despite taking out Pronger's eye early in the game

I didn't think the PK was too bad tonight.  The one goal by Jagr was not a result of poor PK play, it was a breakdown between the two D on the rush.  Otherwise I thought the PK did a pretty good job against a team with a high-powered PP.  The stats/results won't look good on the scoresheet, but I don't think it reflects precisely how it looked.
