Getzlaf and Ryan "in play" according to Bob Murray

The deal will be with the ducks. We need to even out the board after our last deal with them.. "the steal"... ya..  which is why the media is already prepping toronto for the over spending we will be doing on one of those guys.. most probable is Getz.

He did this with the kessel deal.. Its a business tactic that allows both teams to have an opporunity to realize what they need .. the ducks waited till now to see where they were going, and who they would keep... they kept ryan, to fire the coach.. now that a perfect coach has been hired for youngsters.. the opposite of whats there.. players will be shipped out, and the deal will be made with Toronto.

IMO obviously.

Perhaps, but given how horrible they are defensively they are more likely looking to make the key piece of the deal a d-man and try to get something that can fill in up front in the shorter term.

Or, they think they can get both.

I definitely think a Schenn-type would be a must.  I'm just thinking that if I'm them, I'm going after Toronto's most skilled prospect up front as well.  Then get that serviceable forward (ie. Kulemin) added as well.

If Burke were to acquire Getzlaf without having to give up Kadri, I would be thoroughly impressed.  If I were in Anaheim's shoes, I'd insist on having Kadri included in any deal.

I'm just speculating that Murray would inquire on Colborne (if only to fill a hole at that position.)

I agree, I think Colborne more than Kadri for Murray.

I think you offer up the Grabbo line and if it takes more you toss in schenn. that imo should get the deal done.

I threw out Kadri as I feel he's our best prospect, so that's who I feel Anaheim would want.  Then again, Anaheim might not feel the same in that respect.

I could totally see Anaheim looking at Colborne and thinking, "Big-bodied, talented and creative centerman...he's the one we want".  Colborne would fit more in the mold of a Getzlaf replacement than Kadri would.

markhmasters: Leafs spokesman: GM Brian Burke got a lot of emails yesterday so decided to hold 'general availability'

The key here is going to be good, young, CHEAP players. Anaheim is still broke, they will not be looking to add salary.

Kadri, Bozak, Kulemin, Franson, Gunnarsson, Aulie etc are the type of players they will be looking for. They may take one player in the $3 mil range in order to get a 'name' player that will look good to their fans (ie. Schenn).

These type of deals always seem to go for less then they should. Schenn as the centre piece, plus one of the cheap young talent, plus a 1st and/or a second player from the cheap, young list for Getzlaf and another veteran (Hillier, Blake etc). That is likely the type of deal that it would take (if a deal is made at all).

To be honest, I haven't given it much thought, but I don't know how many other teams would/could make an equivalent offer. Philly and a package around B. Schenn or JVR might do it. Anaheim wont be trading him to LA (or likely any other team that will be in their conference next year). Boston wont be shaking up their team that much right now. The Rangers are always a wild card. I'm not sure off the top of my head who else has the cap space, need, and assets to be serious.

Probably not, since it's not actually a press conference, just Burke making himself available to everyone.

aren't there cap considerations?  isn't anaheim trying to save money?
grabs + kuly + mac = 8.5 million
add in schenn and thats almost 12 million

getzlaf only makes 5.35 million...even with blake as a salary dump it still doesn't even out.

Bah, it's even less than nothing then.  Oh well.

I imagine Burke had preliminary discussions about this during the Caputi deal.

I imagine he had preliminary discussions back in November when Ryan was rumoured to be available.

It would be hard to fathom that they didn't at least talk about it. Burke will certainly know the deal and price it would take and what Murray would like in return.

markhmasters: 'We're listening more than anything right now': Brian Burke on NHL trade chatter

markhmasters: Brian Burke asked if he's getting any good offers: 'It's classified. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.'

I take that last one to mean yes, because, when he hasn't received any good offers, he's been pretty upfront about it.

And if that doesn't work keep adding 4th round picks until the trade bar evens out.

The Ducks have place 2 players on waivers.  Read into that what you will.  One's a forward, one's a d.
