The 2014 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

Eh, his decent looking numbers seem to be a stadium by-product. Outside of Oakland he's pretty JA Happ-ish.

His career road numbers are still a good upgrade on Happ, especially since his career walk rate is half that of JA's. He's obviously not going to be a front of the rotation type, but, I think he's a pretty good 4/5 type, and the Jays could use an upgrade there.

I suppose. Still, I have to think that someone in the Jays front office is thinking that they'll improve the back end of the rotation by adding someone to the front end.

Perhaps, but, at the same time, having some options and some depth isn't a bad thing, either. They might be best served to improve both ends.

Which is where I'd go back to "improving" on a guy with a 4.40 FIP to a guy with a 4.42. If the Jays are going to spend assets to add someone, and I don't think the Jays could have offered the A's someone like Fuld who'll help them right away, I think it'd have to be someone you're more confident in than Milone.

Lester, Gray, Kazmir, Samardzija

What a ridiculous rotation the A's will have for the playoffs.

It's a pretty solid move for Boston too.  It seems likenLester wants to go right back to Boston and Yoenis will probably kill it in tiny Fenway, especially coming away from Oakland.  The A's rotation is insane right now.  Offense might be a bit of an issue though

Plus...worst case scenario for the Jays, there is the possibility that Lester returns and you now have to deal with YC and Lester.

I'm just not that concerned about that. Cespedes the last two years has had a OPS+ of 103 and 113 for the park-factor conscious. Meanwhile Colby Rasmus the last two years has been at 125 and 98 and people seem ready to chase him out of town. Unless Cespedes figures out a way to get on base he's just not that valuable an offensive player.

Would think that Cespedes should do pretty well now that he will be hitting drives at the green monster.

Agree on this. Adding a David Price puts the rest of the rotation in their respective rightful places from #2-5.  Otherwise, what's the point in adding a guy to add more mush to the mushy middle of it?

And on Milone... gives up a lot of home runs.. the Rogers Dome is sad land for any pitcher with that kind of habit.

Except his offensive deficiencies aren't stemming from a lack of power, it's from an inability to get on base. Unless he figures that out he's going to be pretty limited as a hitter.

Not a huge surprise, but it doesn't look like the Jays are going to get anything done before the deadline. Fortunately, the teams they're fighting for a the wildcard with didn't really do much either, and neither did the O's.

Scherzer - Verlander - Sanchez - Price
vs
Lester - Samardzija - Gray - Kazmir

I hope that happens in the playoffs.  7 game series, 7 runs total.

EDIT:

The deal is:

@jonmorosi

Four-player deal confirmed: David Price to Tigers, Austin Jackson to Mariners, Nick Franklin and Drew Smyly to Rays. No other prospects.

Sounds like Rasmus scratched due to attitude adjustment.
