Dude, everybody knows Bozak has the best shot in the league.
He is a really interesting case.

I wouldn't want to commit long-term to him because of his age, but if we could get him for 2 years for say $3.5mil I might be interested. Now, I wouldn't be all that surprised to see a team offer him a longer contract for more money, but until then it's fun to think about. He could start at left wing on the 3rd line with Holland at centre and either Ashton or Clarkson on the right side. It would give the team a back-up plan in case they aren't fully convinced Holland is ready for a full time, top-9 role. And even if Holland is it would give him a responsible winger who can also keep up offensively and help on faceoffs from time to time. It would also give the team more depth at centre so we aren't looking at guys like Smithson or playing Ashton at C when injuries hit.

Hooray for Colton! Honestly, we have a multi-billion dollar ownership group that has no problem having 20 executives in the Leafs front office. Why do the Leafs have no concept of how to use the cap. Why do they shun advanced metrics. It's embarrassing.

That is the real cap mismanagement, not which players on sub 1M contracts were occupying the bottom of the roster and press box.

Your math is a little off. If they didn't sign Clarkson and bought out Liles instead of Komisarek, there would have been about ~$4.75M more in cap space available this season. You forgot to add Komisarek's back in. There'd be about $9.25M in future seasons, but that really doesn't help in a discussion that focused on this past season.

The executive believes Reimer?s trade value is low and by qualifying him they risk being stuck with his contract. CapGeek calculates it would cost the Leafs $1.6 million to qualify the 26-year-old goalie.
Reimer?s trade value may be lower than it was a year ago, but he could still fetch something via trade. He could also be packaged with another player to land a larger return. That?s certainly more preferable than losing a tradable asset for nothing.

An NHL executive on James Reimer: ?If I?m the Leafs, I don?t make him a qualifying (restricted free agent) offer. The reason, you can?t get much for him in a trade. So by signing him, you?re paying too much for a backup goalie and you may get stuck with the contact. I?d rather cut my losses, let him go, and sign a veteran to backup Jonathan Bernier.?
