Marlies Talk 14/15 | aka What's Nylander up to?

It will be interesting to see who gets to callup to play defense on Wednesday too.  I'd like to see Loov get a brief shot but starting his NHL career against Pittsburgh would be tough.  His numbers look really good for playing on a bad team.  7 points in 16 games and a +4.  Have to love those Bergman picks.

Holzer and Nilsson probably have a leg-up being righties.

Conner Brown was second star in game with Marlies.
This kid might be for real as a under sized product out of OHL.
Hope he continues to grow as a professional in the Leafs organization.

5th in rookie AHL scoring, just 1 point out of 2nd. He's also doing this on the lowest scoring team in the league so he has very little offensive support. I try not to get excited about these types of players until they show success at the professional level, but so far so good for Brown.

Other positives were Bibeau getting shut out number two and Frattin is starting to score again.

3 goals and 3 points in 8 games. And one of those was an empty-netter. Stick a fork in it.

Marlies sent forwards David Broll , Patrick Watling and D Matt Finn to Orlando of ECHL and recalled FW Denver Manderson.

Broll and Finn have both struggled this season. Broll pointless in 19 games, Finn in and out of lineup since returning from injury[/quote]

Finn and Broll go down to the ECHL.

reading between the lines it seems that the Marlie coaching staff is perhaps not getting the max out of the quantity of defensemen they have.  Seems Loov and the others are struggling only Niilson is working out.  I am wondering if Spott had more of an impact with the Marlies as they seem to be the pits this year.
Perhaps they have had too many injuries. Is that a conditioning problem or just flukes?  I had high hopes for McWilliam at one point but not much on him either

Antoine Bibeau wasn't very busy today, but did enough to put up a shutout against the St. John's IceCaps. 21 saves today for his 6th win and 3rd clean sheet. 2.23 GAA and .924 save percentage. Seems to have jumped Garret Sparks and Christopher Gibson into #3 on the depth chart.

For no reason decided to look at Orr/McLaren's Marlies stats.  14 combined games played, no points for either player.  That's at least 101 combined games over the past 2 seasons in the NHL or AHL with zero combined points.  Probably longer if you factor in the year before.

They're both curiously "injured" a lot in the AHL.

Injured egos.

A good week for Connor Brown. First he was named the AHL's Rookie of the Month for December and today he was named to the AHL all-star game.

I don't want to necessarily say he's been a surprise, but he's been very good.  Especially since a lot of people probably questioned him without McDavid.

He looks like he's developing pretty well!

Good for Brown, what was he 5th rounder. Nice to get some talent from later picks, its where Detroit found so much success.

Percy appears to have turned his season around after 0G, 1A -12 in his first 11 games to 1G 4A +8 in the next 7.
