He must know that I'm on to him.

You guys were getting all up in a tizzy over lines at practice?

PRACTICE LIKE IT'S A GAME.  If you want to be a successful fan you treat practice like a game and give it 110% on your comments about it.  We like to leave it all out on the forum.

115%!!!

It's like you guys don't want to win! Practice at 120%!
That way if we're done 10% on game day we'll still be at the recommended 110%.

I guess I have been as hard on RC as anybody.  I would say one thing though, the guy does have patience and that isn't a bad thing.  Sometimes we have to remember that although we are over half way through the season which is shortened due to the lockout, during the course of a regular season we would be only at game 29 with a ton of hockey left.  I know his thinking should be adjusted to reflect the shortened season but in a year when the Leafs are not expected to make the playoffs maybe he is just sticking to his plan despite the season length.  That being to evaluate what he has over an extended period and provide a picture of what Nonis will need to address for next year.  He will not let the early success sway his decisions and he wishes to hold steadfast to the ultimate plan which is to turn this organization into a contender.  If that is truly his intentions you have to admire that patience when many in his position would simply want to make the playoffs to save face or cement his job security.

So having said that, he sits vets like Komi and Liles while guys like Holzer and Kostka are evaluated.  Gardiner is left on the farm to develop so when he is recalled it is at a time that is best for Gardiner and not just for the Leafs.  Orr and McLaren are playing because there are a lot of youth in this lineup who have been told to play with an edge and they are there to allow them to do that.  Reimer is supposed to be our future number one, so he plays despite being younger than Scrivens and questionably not even performing to the level that Scrivens showed he was able to play too when Reimer was hurt.  Grabs is here for the long haul having just signed a contract, build up his defensive game for a first line role next season along side Kessel and Lupul where that defensive acumen will be so very needed.  Bozak maybe will be dealt at the deadline as a pending UFA so he is given every opportunity to pad his stats and be bandied about as the first line centre that can help a contending team and grab us some decent picks or a prospect worth far more than what we would get if he was our third line centre.  Kadri is eased into the NHL slowly which is best for his development as it seems to have worked with the whole AHL tutelage.  Going into the season Kadri getting 15 min of ice time is what we would have expected him to have, RC has stuck to that number despite the success of Kadri.  He has no intentions on breaking the confidence that this kid has built up by expanding this role and possibly see him fall into old patterns.

So with all the constant b!tching that I have done in regards to RC and his lineup decisions, this morning I am trying to see where he is coming from.  I have decided to try to see the Leafs through his eyes and the longterm goals of the organization.  I have come to realize that RC most likely has a heck of lot more hockey smarts than the rest of us and maybe I should just shut up and let the pros do what the big guys are paid to do.

Only thing messing with me is, why cant we get a steady game to game effort from JVR. I have been waiting for Carlyle to get him going with full effort every game. he could be so much of a game breaker.

23 yrs old and on pace for 40 goals over an 82 game schedule.  What kind of effort are you looking for?  Stop being so pessimistic all the time Nutman.

Just think how good he will be when he comes out hard every game.

LOL... I wish the internet and these forums were around in the Burns days. I bet folks would be no less blood thirty for the coach's head.

Burns did get fired in his first losing season with the club so...

So did Pat Quinn, btw.

Quinn never had a losing season with the team.

I meant that he did not make the play-offs. There were times when it was considered unacceptable.

Worth noting - after tonight's game, the Leafs are 6th in the NHL on the penalty kill - now going at a 85.4% clip. It has been *10 years* since the Leafs have been in that ballpark (i.e. not 19th or lower in the league).

And, it looked darn good tonight, too.

It really did. McClement and Carlyle are making a big difference this year...

I'll add Komarov to that conversation also, I think he and McClement have had the biggest impact on the PK. I see other players feeding off the strong play of those two as well, even Phaneuf is using his stick, he's constantly poking pucks to the top of the blueline and breaking up rushes. Where Phaneuf is different this year, is how many times he grabs the puck down low and rather than trying to throw it around the boards, he will just spin and fire it down the center of the ice.

The play where Franson closed on Stamkos before he could get a shot off is one of those small things that really help a PK be successful. If you don't give guys time to set up their shots and make them rely on just hammering it towards the net, they're less likely to score.

Yeah, Carlyle was mentioning the skating after the game, it's really what the Leafs do when they are successful. The less time a player has to make a decision, the more he's going to turn over the puck. That Franson play was a perfect example of what to do. Pressure!

From the TMLfans main page:

But Leafs coach Randy Carlyle was also quick to point out Kadri?s contributions on the defensive side of the game. ?I don?t think he was ever negligent in that area. ?he biggest emergence of Kadri is where and when ? in the game ? to try and use the skill. He was always good defensively.:

I like how the coach saying good things about Kadri's defence breaks the formatting of the article.  :D  DOES NOT COMPUTE... DOES.... NOT... *kabloom*
