The 2014 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

I know we'll need pitching, but Ervin Santana isn't looking so good in the NL - 17 ER in his last 17 innings, ERA over 4.00.  He had a great start, but his wins have come against the Mets (x2), Phillies, Reds & Cubs who have a combined W-L record of 111.  Against Miami, St. Louis & Milwaukee, three teams with combined W-L records of 85-70, he is 0-3 with 14 ER in 18 IP.

Was he the one who racked up great stats against weak competition last season, or was that Jimenez?  Either way, if he can't handle the NL so far I feel like he would get rocked in the AL.

Impressive win tonight over Alex Cobb who had 22-something straight scoreless innings coming in.  Edwin tied Bautista for the most HR ever in a month by a Blue Jay with 14 and it was a bomb.

He's really locked in right now. Nice to see after his slow start.

And Janssen is sure making up for lost time - he is already up to 8 saves. Pretty impressive!

I am really enjoying this winning streak. With a weaker division this year, hopefully this means meaningful games in September. Long way to go yet, but keeping positive!

Time to count chickens lol!

NY and Bal lose - division lead now to 3 games.

Jays record now 31-22. 60 more wins in the remaining 108 should get to the post season. At this point you have to wonder does any team in the AL East even get to 90 wins this year?

As long as the Jays rivals (in their division) continue to lose, I'll be happy with that.  :)

GO BLUE JAYS!!!

It's a bit unnerving they have to score as many runs as they have to win in this series so far, but I will give it a pass since it's TB, who always have had the Jays number in the past. If it takes 9 to beat them, so be it.  But that needs to change going forward. Giving up 5 or 6 a game won't get you to the post season.

The relievers have had some shaky outings over this streak which concerns me a bit.  Delebar and Cecil are not what they were last year.  Their ERA's are a full run above what they were at the end of last year.. so far.

On a side note, I think Seitzer is our new lord and savior.

Another way to look at it - it's comforting that the Jays are scoring so many runs on an AL East opponent.  ;)

Also:

@Buccigross

Edwin Encarnacion homered again Tuesday, giving him 10 homers in his last 12 games; 14 MLB teams have 10 or fewer HR in that span

And according to Jonah Keri's latest MLB 30 rankings, the Jays offense has actually had BAD luck so far - so some positive regression could be expected (however the pitching has had very good luck so some negative regression may be in the cards...).

By positive regression, you of course mean progression, right? :P

I actually wondered about using that phrasing, but I swear I've seen it used like that before and thought it gets the 'regression to the mean' sort of thing across better.  But yes!
