These non-qualified and bought-out guys are going to screw up the trade market value for Johnsson and Kerfoot.

Yeah a trade return on either of those guys (if they get dealt) would likely be somewhat underwhelming. The best asset would be the cap space it provides.

Do they need to be moved if Pietrangelo is Vegas or bust?

No but one would need to be if we're looking at a Brodie or Tanev.
They won't care what they get back. They have to keep either one of those guys 5 or under. Hey maybe you'll see Dubas trade one for the rights to Brodie or Tanev if they can get a deal done of course.

You think they're going to trade Johnsson or Kerfoot for the negotiating rights of TJ Brodie or Chris Tanev, and for like 18 hours?
No, I said if they can get a deal done they'll.

Am I missing something here?
No I was only saying it because the Leafs will have to dump Kerfoot or Johnsson if the sign Tanev or Brodie. Nothing more. Very unlikely to happen. The Leafs will look to get at least a draft pick/prospect for either.

Yeah, maybe I'm too pessimistic, but I'm thinking dubas will do well to move either one without taking bad money back. Teams are going to be wary of Johnsson who was hardly a proven commodity before being injured, and based on internal caps Kerfoot is on the pricey side...

The kapenen move is looking like a ridiculous deal the more things shake out.

I'll give Dubas credit, he certainly struck when the iron was hot there.  There are plenty of guys like Kapanen that'll be available for zero talent cost tomorrow.

I'm not sure we've ever seen a UFA class like the one tomorrow.  It's too bad the Leafs don't have more flexibility.  I think prices are going to be very reasonable, and the terms short.

I think you're right. I'm hoping for Brodie via UFA but we'll see what happens.

Is Vatanen bad now?

I don't think I'd say he's bad, but he's never been a guy known for his defensive game really so I'm not sure he's the type of defenceman we're targeting. I suppose if we miss out on Brodie and even Tanev and Hamonic and strike out on any trade options he'd be a guy I'd consider to play with Rielly on a sub-$4mil contract but then we'd absolutely have to get a 3RHD guy who can kill a boatload of penalties too.

The Leafs may end up trading for the D man.

Darling had a .895 Sv% in 33 games in Austria last season which was tied for 15th among goalies.

"Successful"

Lot of money/term for a guy who's scored 40 points once.

Wow that's a big contract. If he can stay healthy it'll look good down the road. Right now it looks like a lot.

I think we're gonna see a few teams go a bit trigger happy early on with a long trickle happening later on. Once things die down I think there will be a market on either Johnsson or Kerfoot. I'm warming up to the idea of moving Kerfoot. Not 100% sure he brings what we need at 3C for that price and might be more of a winger.

I'm moving Johnsson before Kerfoot even though Kerfoot may bring back more. We're not that  deep at centre and that is my only reason behind it.

I'm assuming we get another 3C back in a separate trade.

Who are you trading for a centre?

You're selling low on Johnsson. I think he has a great year this year
