I think its crazy that you could suggest a coach in the league for 20 years doesn't play any kind of system, let alone that assistants play a big role in it as well.

Bring on Eakins, but with our roster as it stands I think wed still be dogfighting it. We need upgrades on our players in practically every position.

I didn't mean to suggest Wilson has no system, he's just very bad at adapting his strategies game to game.  This team is incapable of playing sound defense, they can't break down other teams playing the trap, and they continue the same tactics game in, game out.  It's time for  a change.  A coach CAN get better performances out of his players based on how he approaches the game.  Look no further than the Sens.  Once the team buys in and gets on a roll, confidence can grow and they can play well.  Right now this team looks like it has zero confidence.

Then the failure lies squarely with Burke and his staff then. He completely turned over the roster since he got here.

Burke never said that he iced a contender. He's said on multiple times that the pieces weren't in place to compete until this year. Herein lies the main failure: Goaltending. They should've brought in a vet earlier, and the season could've been saved if we brought in high calibre goaltending even though it would cost us.
and if Reimer didn't get hurt........ifs and buts.....

Tank Nation?

Remember when Pat Quinn was fired for not making the playoffs? Was it really his fault?

Am I hearing you right?  You believe Wilson isn't at fault?

Answer the question. Why didn't Pat Quinn make the playoffs in 05/06?

Players got tired of him.  He had made it for 6 straight seasons and they tuned him out.  Coaches have a shelf life.

Well a little thing called the cap was put in place that year, hamstringing the Leafs financial clout along with a lame starter.

Instead of...

Mogilny, Nolan, Roberts, Nieuwendyk, Reichel, Renberg, Leetch, Fitzgerald, Francis...

Allison, O'neill, Lindros, Khavanov, Czerkawski, Pohl, some rookies...

You're right, Quinn lost the room, literally.

Quinn had issues around the Leafs at that time.  He was GM and forced to give up his role to JFJ, he didn't like that one bit.  He wanted more control, he had a LOT of the same players still : Sundin, Tucker, McCabe, Antropov, PotOCoffee had all been there for years, so yeah his shelf life was up.  But go ahead and disagree with every single post I make Tigger.

I don't think anyone is saying Eakins is the holy savior but he certainly can't do any worse than Wilson.

That's really easy to say but let's get real for a moment, this was a bubble team from day one that needed goaltending to be successful which has been a big question outside of 2 good months from Jonas, throwing around Eakins name like that totally goes against the adversity they've had this year, injuries on top of goaltending and youth.

This last stretch has been just about the worst so far this year for the Leafs, they've been pretty resilient before the last 8 games where some of their scoring and most of their goaltending went south, pulling Dallas out of a hat is just scapegoating with absolutely no proof.

Isn't that the point of the forum, to disagree with you at every turn? ;)

I expect disagreements, but more often than not I see Tigger directly posting comments and making snarky remarks to my posts time and time again.

Hey, no one made you type that.

The power struggle around Quinn and the makeup of the team are two very different things, if you can't see how dramatically the skill level of that team changed, hats off, it's about as crystal clear as it gets.

Sorry if you're offended, I disagree with lots of people, agree with lots too ( we've agreed in the past, it's not a plot or anything ) for some reason our gears are lined up right now.

If you're going to say things I disagree with, you want me to just leave you alone? I can do that.

That's entirely unnecessary and has nothing to do with the point you were trying to make.
