Leafs Acquire Riley Nash

With all the cap stuff that this helps with, part of me wonders if this trade was less for the player and more for some cap shenanigans.

I definitely think this, a cap maneuver but also playoff depth.

Does all this manoeuvring free up enough space to go after Hall?
Maybe, but I don't think so unless Freddie is done but then they'd need a goalie. I'm  not going  to try and figure out the cap shenanigans lol.

This gives us a lot of room to wheel and deal at the deadline but if Andersen returns before the regular season is up, then we have to shuffle cap hits back down to accommodate his 5M.

This would give the Leafs 4.5ish million in cap space no if they run 6D plus 13 forwards and having to formally have Hutch on the roster as backup.  Pretty insane they we might now have the space to add a big player without giving up Kerfoot

Edit:  Man it?s even better at 5.8M

That means if they use the space, we can assume Andersen won't be back until the playoffs.

Yup and it will go on a goalie and another player if that's the case.

The anticipation is killing me. Laughton would be a great add if somehow they could pry him out of Philadelphia
That's who I want and they'd probably have a good shot at resigning him for next season if Hyman gets too expensive.

Pridham has been working the excel hard.

While Andersen?s injury status is uncertain, it?s expected he will be able to return to the lineup relatively soon. Sources indicate his prolonged absence has more to do with an abundance of caution and not wanting him to play any more games hurt than the Leafs trying to keep him in LTIR the remainder of the regular season.

So if Mirtle has it right, they won't be using Andersen's cap space.

In that case, it would look like they made the LTIR moves just to get Nash so the trade was about getting nash and not making room for a bigger trade.

No they won't and wouldn't unless he's done until the playoffs.

If that's the case, I'm guessing we have a quiet weekend/Monday for trades.
