Van Riemsdyk Being Mentioned

I am really hoping that if Schenn ever got traded it would be to the West for a power forward like Stewart or Clowe or for a #1 Center like Getzlaf.

That's more like it. Now, as long as Kadri and Colborne aren't either, we're all good.

what about Kulemin + Komisarek?

No, no, no. Kulemin is way better than JVR.

Yeah...I don't get this trade at all.  JVR isn't better than Lupul or Kulemin so that puts him on the 3rd line with $4.25 MIL contract and Lombardi on the 4th LW with a $3.5 MIL contract.  If Bozak stays on the 1st line with Grabs on the 2nd it would make the most expensive 3rd line in the league with JVR, Connolly and Armstrong at a staggering $12 MIL.

Schenn leads the team with 130 hits this season, 36 more than the guy below him, Phaneuf, and Schenn has 64 blocked shots, fourth on the team. That's a lot to give up. He also led all defensemen in hits last season.

JVR has higher upside than Kulemin and we get rid of Komisarek's salary.  How about JVR + Courier for Kulemin + Komisarek + leafs 1st?

Does he, though? We know Kulemin is capable of 30 goals, 60 points (even if he doesn't get there on a regular basis). Is JvR's upside really much higher than that?

You mean Coutourier? I don't think they go for that. I would think they'd have to include Gardiner or Colborne as well if Coutourier is involved as well. Kulemin simply isn't lighting it up this year and that matters when you want a few players to help you win a championship.

No way you're getting JVR + a 1st rounder for Schenn.

Could you get him for Aulie and a good prospect/pick? I wonder...

nawh I like Aulie and given Burke's comments on him during the Phaneuf trade, I think Burke likes Aulie too much for someone of Van Reimsdyk's calibur.  A game changer (getzlaf) would have to be coming our way to deal Aulie.

Wait... since when was Aulie perceived as this blue chip prospect?

Physicality is a positive aspect and everything but it doesn't mean that much on its own when the player struggles to keep up with the pace of the game.

Could Gunnarsson be the key part of a deal to acquire JVR? For the record, I really, REALLY gog Gunnarsson. I'm not sure how I'd feel about that if he were. On the other hand, I do like JVR too so...

Schenn is looking like he'll end up being a decent shutdown defenseman.Nothing more or less. They're a dime a dozen, and the Leafs have a lot of them in the system. If Burke can get Van Riemsdyk even up,he should grab him.I think a lot of fans are doing with Schenn what we Leaf fans tend to do in overvaluing our players.

What if a Van Reimsdyk deal is a precursor to a bigger deal?  In that it allows him to trade a Kulemin or a MacArthur?

If that's the case though, why make the deal?  It's not like this roster still needs to be completely overhauled.  I guess if the sum of the parts coming in is greater than the sum of the parts going out then it makes sense, but what if it screws up the team chemistry?

I don't know if he's struggling that much. He is a +7. His ice time is down, but that may just be the result of the team having 6+ defensemen that can play.

I think it's more likely that shutdown defenders are being undervalued. I disagree that they're a dime a dozen. Who would you say are the other shutdown guys the Leafs have on the roster?
